soul history
eunju’s soul was created at the very beginning of time - no, no that’s not right; eunju’s soul was created long before the conception of time. to completely understand what i mean we need to go all the way back to when there was nothing, back to when the universe itself was nonexistent. for many there are stories of gods and chaos, of explosions and science, and myths; just so many things people have come to believe. but, for those loyal and old supernatural creatures who can remember the olden days, the true creator was a legendary kitsune. the goddess of the universe and of all reality, the only eleven tailed kitsune to ever exist; terra kaa no kitsune.
it is said that she created the universe with her spiritual soul-orb, morphing it into the galaxies, stars, planets, life, and almost anything that can be thought of. no one knows why she decided to give life to the universe; the only thing many seem to know is that she was the eldest daughter of inari okami. for nearly a billion years afterwords the great goddess became lonely, sure she had created life and many intelligent beings but - but she did not have someone who would truly understand her, one who would connect and stand beside her. what better way would there possibly be than to create an entirely new being from your own soul? after all, one knows themselves better than anyone else. so she proceeded to rip off some of the last pieces of her soul and create something akin to a soul-dust. a foggy and aura like creature that had no face and had no body; it was only a voice - and how terra loved it. she took care of this spirit-soul as if it where her child and in return the dust helped her control the universe and offered her company as she looked out on her empire.
unfortunately, like many emperors terra kaa was not kind hearted. she was vicious and cruel and barely batted an eye when she destroyed an entire galaxy for upsetting her. she was not a kind goddess, not by anyone's standards. i believe it is very clear what happens next or, at least, you can guess what is going to happen next. the spirit-soul was unhappy, while it loved terra dearly, it hated what she did. the violence she ruled with and the sheer lack of anything that would give the subjects some kind of freedom or any kind of higher intelligence; she kept them stupid and afraid and the spirit-soul hated her for it. so like many times in history the spirit-soul decided to rise against her rule and to allow the creatures to grow and evolve; he turned against his creator to start a trillion year struggle for power.
the soul-spirit fought diligently it had too much to lose if it were to be defeated - it was the only thing that stood a slim of a chance against her. it was, after all, part of her soul; as one knows themselves one can destroy themselves. the war was not pretty, nor was it fast, it lasted a trillion years and during that time they manged to destroy half of terra's empire - leaving it in shambles, fields upon fields of broken asteroids and lost lives. from their fighting and destruction rose the first black holes, the first rips in times and dimensions, they were literally tearing the universe apart at the seems.
sadly, this is not the story of how the underdog rose to take power and liberate the kingdom from the evil queen. inevitably the spirit-dust was defeated and forced to surrender to terra kaa, it had tried it's best and had been forced to it's knees in surrender. while the spirit-soul was a traitor to terra, she still saw it as her child and friend; instead of simply vanquishing it she banished it to the farthest reaches of the universe, to a galaxy known as via lactea, the milky way. a place terra had sent many other godly creatures - banishing them from her sight; there she sent her child in hopes she would never see them again.
on a distant planet that at the time was named petram, which would later come to be known as earth, the spirit-dust spent many years alone before reaching out to the other exiles. quickly, the spirit-dust gained a reputation among the other godly-creatures as the one who was brave enough to stand up against the empress; he became known as chaos. it was also here on earth that he met his master's father - inari okami, the god of foxes. both spirits formed a tight bond and a deep friendship with one another as they waited out their sentence on this baron planet. inari gave the spirit-soul his first name, osusuki, and his first body which was that of a black fox. osusuki was grateful for it, and for his friend's kindness and understanding and promised the fox-god that one day he would defeat terra kaa and bring peace back to the universe.
unfortunately, there is not much that one can keep hidden from the goddess of the universe and terra kaa was far from pleased when she heard of her child and her father planning to overthrow her. she quickly tore osusuki from his new body and forced him onto the mortal plain of earth, cursing him to forever live like the things she believed were mutts. she then separated the gods and spirits, forcing specific rifts between them that broke many friendships and created different gods across the world. preventing them from ever having any kind of contact with each other. from osusuki, she tore his memories and powers, but in a last, desperate, attempt to hold onto some kind of power - something that he could one day use to rise up against her again, osusuki ripped another small piece of terra's soul off. with that piece he forever tied himself to the universe and before terra could do anything his soul was twisted and forced into the body of a mortal - reborn into one of the creatures osusuki had fought to free.
he lived many lives after that - countless supernatural beings, species, humans, anything you can think of he had been at one time. although, each time they died and then redied they had never been able to regain their original powers to start the second war of the universe. each life was unsuccessful each time they died a failure - murdered trying to protect the mortals they so happily treasured. what they didn't know was that inari had been watching his friend, so close and yet so far - waiting for the moment his friend was reborn as a creature under him, a fox whom he could grant power in efforts to overthrow his creation. a creature who would be gifted with the powers to finally free the universe from a tyrant.
what do you know, it seems that time has finally come as osusuki is reborn into the body of a jikan kitsune. inari hopes that this time he will be able to help osusuki, but first he needs to help his friend understand how to control and use his powers before he sends him off to war. it is made much harder now as osusuki, no, as eunju has no memories - all inari hangs onto is eunju's first death when he would regain his memories and finally have the power to fight his daughter. eunju will set them all free, in the most cliche choice of words. inari simply wishes his close friend will realize that this is the time to strike.
