Win would have come with him for this, but considering the situation with J, it was understandable that his partner wouldn't feel comfortable leaving when it wasn't resolved yet, so Dick gave a kiss and a promise to be back soon before leaving. Win hadn't asked for that promise, not the way he had when Dick went on the futile, one-man expedition to find his sister, but he felt the need to say it regardless. He never gave his oaths idly, and he knew Win already trusted him- he just wanted to give more...substance to the fact he did his best to never break a promise. Maybe he'd worry less about him, if he fulfilled enough of those, although he could already assume nothing would ever truly assuage Win's concern aside from his own return. The same could be said for Dick when his fiancé had matters to take care of, even in situations wherein Dick was bitter about the context of his departure. Their little family of three -possibly four, as the days passed on- could continue with a member missing, but they were all stronger together, and so his walk to the Northstar District was almost a jog with how quickly he set his pace. He didn't outright sprint for several reasons, one being drawing unnecessary attention and the other regarding the goods he carried. Dick didn't want to jostle them too much, or risk their damage at all, because not only would that be ridiculous, but it would be stupid, too.
In his small knapsack he had some eggs wrapped carefully, and slabs of cured rabbit meat. He was sure they had plenty of food, especially the canned variety, but fresher ingredients were always a great addition. There were a few clothes, too, washed personally as best as they could be. Over his shoulder, Dick also had Win's rifle slung by its strap. Some would see it as an invaluable tool, but Win had never liked using it- Dick could see that much, whenever he'd return from a hunt using the very same weapon, so he hadn't asked any questions when it was handed to him. He just hoped there was someone here who needed it, regardless of what the settlement's policies were with weapons. Dick couldn't really remember.
"It's not much, but I've got a few things to trade with you."
