— to think he’d first seen northstar’s leader as nothing more than some guy he could try and have his way with. to think he’d tried for way, way too long before realizing the man was completely oblivious to any of frederick’s most obvious advances. though, the more he tried to weasel his way into the man’s hearts - and his pants - the more he started to realize that, hey, green was a cool guy. reluctant as he’d been to admit it, perhaps he was glad to value green more as a friend than if they had some random fling.

— green’s childlike, innocent view on romance was a lens that fred couldn’t look through. he rarely ever thought about the soft romances, the ways he could make someone else feel; more often than not, he only thought about what the other person could do for him. fred never truly allowed himself to indulge in the innocent intimacies of romance; he didn’t think he ever would. perhaps that was why green and fred wouldn’t have worked in the first place. as flirtatious as fred could be, green was oblivious, and in search for something far more meaningful.

god, fred couldn’t stand the loveable sap. his obliviousness used to make him want him even more. however, it seemed that their budding friendship just blossomed into something so great; green was admittedly a great friend to have. perhaps he was better made to be a wing man than anything else. “tell me about it. i should just move down here for the winter months,” he acknowledged with a grin, sparing a glance at green before looking over towards the sandy beach. why couldn’t the stirling family have settled here than the icy and unforgiving mountain of all places?

“quite the opposite!” freddie blinked, offering a confused laugh in response. and then, there was green’s admittance. oh, this idiot really did swing both ways. fred couldn’t say he was particularly jealous of the man; perhaps a bit envious of his openness about his own sexuality. “good for you, green.” shaking his head, he leaned forward with the smallest of a smile as he mused, “that doesn’t mean you can’t still be my wingman now, does it?” fred wouldn’t have it any other way, honestly.

In his rose-tinted glasses, he saw relations as nothing more than sheer love and wholesomeness — anything more sensual, and perhaps he may even be taken aback and find it somewhat lewd. He’d never been one to pursue more amatory exploits, instead searching high and low for love if it would ever find him. In fact, he had been single for the majority of his life and a part of him was glad for it. After all, he had other priorities at that point in his life: survival. Once life felt like a safer place to be in, soon he would then venture out and learn what felt right to him.

His life with Mickey was perfect.

As for Freddie, he could never acknowledge that perhaps Freddie had been looking for something a little different than a friendship from Green. — freddie didn’t think there was actually someone that missed him being around. more often than not, his goal was to make others miss when he was gone, not the other way around. he cracked an easygoing smile, laughing lightheartedly. “you’re just saying that, now,” he insisted, shaking his head. god, green was too soft of a man for his own good. after a moment’s contemplation, he gently swirled his glass in one hand and noted, “this wouldn’t be too bad of a winter home, would it? does it get cold here?”

green’s playful remark, assuring that fred was not down a wingman was at least reassuring. the little shit. he nudged green’s shoe in return in wordless reply - because how else does someone respond to being called a muppet? “there are some really lovely women around northstar. i mean, men too, if that’s something you’re into.”

there was a moment of hesitation, a short inhale of breath. a second of contemplation that would most likely otherwise go unnoticed. green was the closest person he had to a friend outside of his family - aside from mollie, of course, who fred considered arguably one of the people that knew him the most. though he himself had his own secrets that he didn’t share, not even to mollie. he found it would be hard for anyone to understand. and, for a man who talked so much about the “stirling way,” it would only make him look like a hypocrite if he himself decided to step out of line. it was fred’s best-kept secret. and as much as he wanted to tell his good friend, he forced himself to bite his tongue.

he covered his brief hesitation with a short huff of lighthearted amusement, staring down at his drink as he jokingly teased, “the men are all yours, loverboy.” he took a sip of his drink and sent a playful look green’s way. then leaning back in his seat, he looked around and casually asked, “what else is there to do around here?”
