[align=center][div style="width: 350px; text-align: justify; font-family: helvetica; font-size: 9pt; line-height: 1.4;"]nights where max could just peacefully fall asleep seemed to be a rare occurrence now. when she was younger, she was able to fall asleep practically anywhere, but ever since their parents died, she had too many thoughts rushing through her head to be relaxed enough to even think about sleeping. to max’s knowledge, everyone else in the lodge had already retired for the night and were asleep. silence soon settled in, making all of her concerns and anxieties grow louder in her head as she toss and turned in her bed. she found herself flipping over once more and looked up towards the moon and stars outside the window, attempting to count them to try and make herself drowsy.
when that didn’t work out, she let out a sigh and pushed the blankets off of her and leaned down to grab her boots from the floor as she stood up. when she left the room, she shut the door quietly behind her, doing her best not to wake up joey. max made her way down to the entrance of the lodge, pulling her coat on as she walked down the stairs before setting her boots back on the floor to slip them on.
even with the warmer months approaching, the cold night air up on the mountain sent shivers down her spine as she stepped outside, making her quickly pull her blue beanie over her head. she crossed her arms to try and warm back up a bit as she took a few steps down the stairs, taking a seat on the top one. she sat there for a few moments, blue eyes looking up at the sky once more as her hand slipped into her coat pocket to retrieve the pack of cigarettes and lighter. her free hand cupped around the flame as she lit the cigarette held between her lips, taking a drag from it. she was never the biggest fan of cigarettes. when she tried them back as a teenager, she was probably coughing for at least a half an hour after it and ended up getting a headache. she picked back up the habit a few weeks ago and even though she didn’t cough as much, she still had a distaste for them, but the slight nicotine buzz was better than the numbness she felt without them.
// not great, but a lil post nonetheless!
