for the first time in weeks, the infirmary wasn't locked up. anyone who'd needed care received anton hurrying out with supplies, treating them in the hallway or another room. one of the benefits to leading, hayley had found, was that she could make decisions like these for her children. she could say the infirmary is off limits and no one could really say otherwise. they could protest, but... no one did. considering the circumstances, considering the fact that her daughter had quite literally died and come back to life, most people understood that hayley had damn good reason to want her daughter to have peace and quiet as she recovered.
hope's recovery was rocky. she'd gotten better, but then the pneumonia hit, and it was another fight for her life. hayley hadn't said much these last few weeks, but she had been willing enough to inform them about hope's care. after all, most of the people here were like aunts and uncles to the infant; she'd inevitably grow up calling them just that. however, she'd recovered nicely, and after some pressure from anton to let her get back out and about and be exposed to the world once more, hayley found herself in the livingroom with her children. anton and mason sat with the triplets, now two months old and still impossible to tell apart, strings still around their ankles to tell them apart.
hayley sat on a blanket in between the couches, facing hope as she watched her daughter play with her toy, and that was when it happened. hope glanced up, training big blue eyes on hayley's face, and held out the duck toy in her hands. [color=#4A272E]❝mama.❞ she said, clear as day.
immediately, the amusement on hayley's face shifted quickly to that of shock. [color=#4A272E]❝wh- hope, what?❞
[color=#4A272E]❝mama.❞ she repeated, and hayley could have sworn she had an almost annoyed tone, as though she ought to know that yes, she was mama.
and, for the first time in too long of a time, hayley's lips parted into a grin, tossing her head back and belting out a loud laugh, obviously overjoyed at her daughters newest development.
