The library was arguably the nicest common room in the lodge. Though everywhere had been cleaned and spruced up, Johannes had always spent extra time in here. The books they had were straightened up and organized, the shelves were shining and the room had clean carpets and armchairs. It was warm--relatively speaking. Johannes was working on checking through the shelves, re-organizing and humming quietly as he worked. He was working on the shelf--thinly populated--that housed children's books. They had very few children here; in fact Aida, the dear, was the only one he could think of--oh no, Damian as well--but he regretted that many of their old ones were ruined by the leak. Thankfully it was fixed--and they could get more when he got them down to St. Peters.

Warmth, safety, a place to be that wasn't covered in mold or had a hole in the wall; those were all too rare nowadays. Narin found herself walking aimlessly through the Lodge, trying to get a better understanding of the layout.
She dipped into a room she hadn't seen yet, and was shocked at the general cleanliness and organization of the room. She hummed as she stepped inside, her socks keeping her steps quiet. She looked around, taking in the plethora of books. She noticed one of the people - the leader of this ragtag group she supposed - sorting through the children's section. Perhaps if she was more of an asshole, she would've teased him for it, but instead she just trotted up next to him and observed his work.
"I've gotta say, I haven't seen this many books in a while." Narin commented as she slid her hand over the spine of a loose Very Hungry Caterpillar. She remembered her father reading it to her when she was just a little girl. She bit her lip and ignored the nostalgia.
Johannes turned swiftly, inching a bit away but gave a forced smile--he wasn't particularly unhappy about the woman, but it was just..fairly clear that this expression didn't come naturally. However, when he spoke, it seemed rather..proud. "I collect them. Trade for them. Uh--I know it's more important to have food and--everything, but...we need something like this. We lost a lot, a month ago--but I managed to save most of the titles in case I ever find them again. I keep a catalog, so--if there's anything you're looking for.." He paused, looking over the shelves. "Well, it probably wouldn't take too long to find it without the catalog. But--just in case." He glanced down at the book, and his smile seemed to broaden just a bit. "I look for these a lot. I mean--for kids. We've got a few real little guys around and--I mean. There aren't...cartoons anymore." He shrugged--she had to be old enough to remember cartoons. She looked around his age, maybe a bit older.

Johannes had probably seen Gray pop into the library a few times by now. Sometimes he wandered over to the YA section, looking for something geared more towards his age that he could turn off his brain for a while to, other times he deliberately marched over to the non-fiction section, reading biographies and histories... Really anything about the past. He never spoke to anyone, unless he was asking about this or that. No, he preferred to get in, get what he wanted, and get out.
That was his plan now, just grab a biography - he'd been eyeing one about Walt Disney for a while and was finally ready to crack it open - and head off to read, probably in a tree or something. Seeing Narin and Johannes made him pause, briefly, then he kept moving, not saying anything as he headed for his desired shelf.

[align=center][size=9pt]"It'd be better if there were," came the low rumble of Moksha, who approached with Calum trailing loosely behind him. With a quick scan, Moksha traded what looked to be a small slip of paper for one of the books, keeping the place he'd taken it from. He turned and passed it to Calum, who immediately let out a sharp 'oooo' and opened it up. Moksha leaned against the wall, seemingly listening to Calum or just...watching everyone.
Calum started up on the book 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear' admiring the cute art inside and how it was all put together into book-form. He didn't seem to be too interested in the story. Moksha didn't think he knew this guy. The book guy. He furrowed his brow, looking rather irritated as he did so. With one massive hand, he held an arm out to Johannes, waiting for a handshake. "Moksha," he said in a huff.
The forced smile wasn't anything new, and she didn't blame him for being cautious. Though the pride in his tone was.. Strange. Refreshing, almost.
"No, I'm not looking for anything really." Narin said, carefully drawing back from the shelf before she got too tempted to dive into the nostalgia. "Yeah, this is good; its good to have stuff like this to keep people entertained." She spoke. Her eyes flickered with curiosity as Johannes mentioned cartoons; those had existed, hadn't they? She'd never been a big fan of any, she'd been too focused on school and her friends.
"You care a lot about the kids, huh?" Narin commented. It was strange to her, to think there was still a part of the world where children weren't treated like smaller, more easily manipulated adults. She turned at another person's words to see Gray sneaking around in the background, and two people. Narin looked at the two, interest sparked in her bright blue eyes.
Moksha seemed to be ignoring her in favor of Johannes, which was fine with her. She watched the situation with thinly veiled amusement, happy to observe her groupmates for now.
Though they often wouldn't talk at all, Johannes had begun to get used to seeing Gray here, and it made him happy. He'd also begun to take note of what precisely Gray liked to read--outside of the library, there were a few books the dictator felt a bit too attached to, and kept in his room; he might see if the kid wanted to take a look. Well. Like that would happen--he'd have to actually start a conversation for that. Hah. Still, it was nice seeing him read.
The deep bass of the giant was a bit startling--enough for Johannes to stiffen, turn and he kept that pained smile up at the guy. Johannes was used to being shorter than most of the lodge, since they seemed to be overflowing with tall men--but he was pretty sure this guy won the prize. He felt like an ant. And he had to agree, he supposed, with the guy. Though he preferred books, simply because they were quieter, he missed some cartoons. Specifically Scooby Doo--that was really the only thing he remembered watching. God, Katja had gotten sick of that show..
Nostalgia wasn't only affecting Narin, now, and the dictator swallowed, trying to push past the bittersweet pain in his chest. He looked down to see the man's hand and took it, hesitantly. "...Johannes. It's nice to meet y--" He paused, frowning. Moksha. That sounded...familiar. "...Have we met?"
At Narin's words, he turned a bit pink, giving a shrug. "I--well....I guess, they--I don't..do well with them. Personally. But they--I mean we can't just--just leave them to...do nothing. Or work all day. Thats not--not how it works. Here." He mumbled, feeling a bit ridiculous for explaining--after all, kids made him...nervous. Generally speaking.

He supposed it was rather lucky for Johannes that Moksha knew his strength. He kept his handshake firm and gentle, not being too formal or forceful with it. The guy looked ready to piss himself or something. Calum was putting his children's book back and searching through them quietly, Moksha's small slip of paper in his hands, ready to keep placement of whatever he found.
"No," he replied, turning his attention to Narin for a moment. He hadn't really noticed her before, if he was being honest. He'd noticed the books, and with the books, he noticed Johannes. That was it. He gave a light nod, not really seeming to want to talk to her, but if the conversation started up he probably wouldn't be too rude. "Johannes," he said with a sort of hum that rumbled in his chest, as if about to start a sentence. He soon followed it up with a light sigh, "You wouldn't happen to have any comics?" The word comics made Cal perk up, clearly excited at the idea.
His name in that deep voice was a bit more intimidating. Shit. Johannes told himself, constantly--he wasn't scared of things.
Well, that was bullshit. "...Yes?" He ventured, freezing at the question. Uh oh. He did but--he didn't want...this guy....taking them. He kept them in his room, not the library--they weren't from trades. They were his comics. Mostly scooby doo, from before. "...we don't...have many...um, I could--try to look for some next time we're in St. Peters? I, uh--sorry."
