BASICS:
the fundamentals of their character.

full name: doyle ventura
doyle is a name referencing sir arthur conan doyle, though it is an anglicized version of the irish ó dubhghaill.
ventura is a spanish surname and a short form of bonaventura, meaning "good fortune."

referred to as: doyle, though one misspelling once had them called "dolly" by exactly one person.

gender & pronouns: agender; they/them or ey/em

age: twenty-two

date of birth: june third, 2017

ethnicity: dominican, of mixed central african and taíno descent.

role: currently, someone who just tried to peep into the life of the bluestem prairie, though with considerable knowledge regarding plants and how to grow them and heal people's ailments with them.

current residence: probably camped out just outside of the plains, packing up all their belongings and getting ready for the trip there.

romantic & sexual orientation: demiromantic pansexual

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE:
what they look like. image courtesy of the obscured icon maker..

doyle is measured at five foot eight, with a strong upper body offset by slightly-plumper legs. their head tends to be shaved for simplicity and practicality's sake (plus, they think that their head shape is fine enough to just be out in the open), but there ends up having a bit of hair left, anyways, which is pitch black and quite coily. their large brown eyes, warm and honey-toned with an almost amber-like gleam, are usually half-lidded with indifference or mild exasperation, giving them a constantly-unimpressed look. they have surprisingly long lashes, gracefully curved and nicely complimenting the soft lines of their v-shaped face and gentle jaw. despite such blessedly angelic features, their brows are rather harsh: arched and bulky, occasionally with one eyebrow raised in silent questioning. their skin is a sunset-undertoned umber color, with a careful flush over their nose and some of their cheeks; a dark beauty mark dots the left side of their face, just below the corner of their lips.

they tend to wear light clothing, as they get hot easily and have a rather warm body temperature—button-down or hawaiian shirts, mostly, over tank tops with shorts of varying lengths and sturdy sneakers. they tend to gravitate towards warm colors like yellow, orange, and red, but will take any color of clothing so long as it fits out of necessity. they have a watch that is probably very off, but they keep it strapped to their left hand, regardless. a thin, dark chain adorns their neck as their only piece of solely decorative accessory. most of the time, they layer sports bras or tank tops to give themself a flatter chest, though it gets them sweatier quicker. they usually have a crutch of some kind for when their leg acts up: one that they found in an abandoned clinic that they wrapped some cloth around to prevent any corrosion from hurting them. a pair of circular, coppery, wire-rimmed glasses are normally perched atop their nose.

CONDITION:
how they're doing.

eyesight: with their glasses? quite good; they found a good match for themself. without? not good; very much blurry.

allergies, intolerances, or ailments: they're prone to migraines; also, after a particularly bad injury, they have a bad limp in their right leg and chronic pain to go with it.

overall physical health: they've got sturdy, steady hands and strong arms with a good core to boot, but due to their old injury, strenuous physical activity on the lower body is painful for them in moderate amounts and damaging in large ones. they don't get sick easily, in terms of colds and flus, though. generally: they can't exercise their lower body for large amounts of time, and sometimes migraines will hit them out of nowhere, but they're otherwise fit and fine.

physical health notes: they can walk with a cane or crutch for longer amounts of time than without it, though either way they need to take breaks in between. treading through treacherous terrain is also particularly dangerous for them.

distinguishing mannerisms or habits: doyle has a tendency of absentmindedly rubbing or gripping their injured leg, as well as crossing their arms and using a lot of head movements.

ailments, effects, or disorders: they're probably depressed.

mental health notes: none.

handwriting: blocky and mostly composed of capital letters. thickly-stenciled, but impeccably neat, like printed word. they spend a lot of time making sure their handwriting is readable, though they can write rather quickly.

walking: jaggedly, and rather slowly; they lean on their crutch a lot if they have it, and tend to drag their left foot behind them. the upper part of their right side is always stiff, while the lower part is always in a repeating pattern of tense-loose, tense-loose. their left side is more steady and sure.

SPEECH & COMMUNICATION:
how they communicate with others.

capability of verbal speech: just fine, though they find that a meaningful silence with the right facial expression is sometimes ten times as powerful as a string of words.

speech style: clipped and steady, with a rhythmic, academic cadence that speaks of an upbringing with someone of a musical and/or literary background. they're a dynamic speaker with rising and falling tones and varying degrees of volume depending on what they put emphasis on. a poet, if you will, however tight-lipped. after all, if you're going to say anything at all, then you might as well say it beautifully. melodic, harmonious, and warm, with a smart use of a dark, sweetened raspiness in their lower registers.

accent: softened by environment but poised by birthright; they naturally have a bit of a tennessee twang and speak loosely and easily with it around those they're close with, such as their mother, but tend to try and erase that around those that they aren't close with. they still hold that musicality to their voice, but it's less pronounced and is more straight-tracked, losing a bit of the flow they normally have and replacing it with a uniform, politely neutral american accent.

eye contact: just a bit—a few glances here and there when they don't normally look someone in the eye can be useful in portraying meaning.

body language: lots of head movements and careful yet meaningful hand gestures. they tend to cross their arms and purse their lips and give slight raises and furrows of eyebrows on their usually-stoic-yet-unimpressed face to make subtle, yet punctuated statements of emotion. shuttered-off, but practically see-through if you collected all their body language and analyzed it just a bit.

resting face: neutral disappointment, unrepentant boredom, blasé impassion—whatever you'd like to call it, it's mostly just o-o or -_- most of the time.

PAST:
their roots.

TW: MENTIONS OF SEVERE INJURY, BLOOD, IMPROMPTU SURGERY

doyle loved (and still loves) mysteries. it's why they chose doyle to be their given name—the author of some of the most famous detective novels in history, of course, must be a good choice. sharp as a razor wire, they had a rather adventurous mindset as a child—an attitude that their mother encouraged, so long as they didn't put themself in too much danger. they'd look forward to scavenging with their mother and aunt once they started to get the hang of it, picking trinkets that seemed the most interesting to them (and then being lightly reminded by their mother to look for useful things, not a toy monster truck with plastic doll legs instead of wheels, but still letting them keep what they found) and messing around with them once they were back home.

all this activity doesn't necessarily mean that they weren't smart, though—no, no, they were rather brilliant, and with a powerful analytical mind. it was just that their curious streak ran just as wide as their genius, and on one trip while looking for supplies, they came across a lawn care store. it seemed normal enough, devoid of most supplies they’d find useful. there were a few giant bags of fertilizer that they could possibly haul back to their shelter, an empty canister of some non-branded cleaning product, and… a lawn mower. perfectly intact, besides a few scrapes on the side. doyle didn’t have any need to cut what grass they found near their shelter, but it couldn’t hurt to check it out, right? it’s not like there would still be fuel in it, if it so happened to not be a display mower. it would’ve been siphoned out for far more important things a long time ago.

it turns out that not everyone shared the same logic as they did.

laying on that bloodied concrete floor, screaming their lungs out as they clutched the ruined flesh of their left leg, desperately running through what they knew about wounds and the human body and how to save themself from death. their mother came running, stopping for only a moment to stare in shock at her hysteric child before fully shifting into work mode, using her knowledge as a former e.r. nurse to save her child’s life, along with the vast majority of their leg.

from then on, doyle was schooled in the ways of keeping their leg healthy, on how to remain mobile, and how to do what they could on only one fully-functional leg. they took to it like a sponge with water, soaking up the new information to become a great medic, as well as flipping through botany and herbology books to get themself used to herbal medicine. now with their newfound skills, they carve out a path towards really living instead of just surviving: the bluestem prairie.

RELATIONSHIPS:
their affiliates, allies, and acquaintances.

✒ they’ll find enemies and allies as they go along, won’t they? for now, all they have is themself and their family—luisamaría, their mother, and rafaela, their aunt.

    ✒

    ✒

PERSONALITY:
who they are on the inside.

doyle is the stoically adventurous type—they’re certainly among the first to investigate a suspicious happening or test out the effects of a strange plant (which, obviously, both may have a slew of consequences), but they don’t tend to show their passion or curiosity on their face, or they try not to, at least. they’re extremely eager to learn and grow, and can take most shortcomings and criticisms in stride without harming their pride; they believe that you can teach an old dog new tricks, and they aren’t even old, yet. they’re rather patient, but when being underestimated or belittled without any true substance, they’re quick to lose their temper. they can’t stand being considered “lesser”—it sets off their inner competitive streak! they are more logical than emotional (or so it seems), but even so, if they find that they enjoy your company, they’ll be a better friend than even they imagined.

MISC.:
additional tidbits.

✒ doyle learned how to read before they started school, their first pieces of “literature” being the neatly-printed lyrics on some of their father’s sheets of music.

✒ they can speak spanish and english, along with a jarring amount of old english.

NOTES:
for personal use.

✒ listen to their playlist here and read its analysis here.

    RP WANTS AND NEEDS:

          ✒ they want:
              - competence. if they find that bluestem and its people aren't as good as they thought it'd be, they're skipping town. they need to know that it can protect and provide for them and their family.
              - challenge. make them earn their keep. they want to show that they're good at what they do.
              - safety. they don't want their mom and aunt to work so hard to keep everyone safe—they want that responsibility already provided for, and all basic needs to be secured.

          ✒ they need:
              - acceptance. let them see that they're more than capable, and that physical labor is not the only way to show love. they can contribute without trying to match up to other people's standards.
              - friends. honest-to-god friends. they miss waxing poetic about the full moon with like-minded strangers more than they'd like to admit.
              - community. not necessarily the same as friends, but along similar tracks; doyle needs structure and warmth and the security that they're not going to be left behind, and that they're worthy of being around others.

          ✒ i want:
              - for them to have at least one strong relationship with someone else, because emotions and connection are important for their character development B)
              - for them to geek out about literature, language, or herbs at least once. love googling things or pulling stuff out of my head on the fly me. they'd also probably grow a bit
              - for them to be unable to work for a day because of their physical ailments so they beat themself up and pave way for some character development mannnnnn

    RP LIST:
includes rps from the past and present, but not the future! (obviously)

              ✒ none so far!

✒ how they might care for their hair if/when they let it grow

[color=#804d00][gfont=Crimson Text]Here's the thing. You said "a Charizard is a dragon." Is it in the same family? Yes. No one's arguing that. As someone who is a Dragon type Gym Leader, I am telling you, specifically, in all of Kanto, no one calls Charizards dragons. If you want to be "specific" like you said, then you shouldn't either. They're not the same thing. If you're saying "dragon egg group" you're referring to the entirebreeding group, which includes things from Charmander to Magikarp to Goomy. So your reasoning for calling a Charizard a dragon is because random people "call the giant lizards dragons?" Let's get Mega Gyarados and Aerodactyl in there, then, too. Also, calling someone an Indigo E4 or Kanto E4, It's not one or the other, that's not how the Indigo League works. They're both. A Charizard is a Charizard and a member of the dragon family. But that's not what you said. You said a Charizard is a dragon, which is not true unless you're okay with calling all members of the dragon family dragons, which means you'd call Magikarp, Goomy, and Alolan Exeggutor dragons, too. Which you said you don't. It's okay to just admit you're talking about Mega Charizard X, you know?[/gfont][/color][/div][/div][align=center]
