There were several announcements that he had to make — none very optimistic. It was not like him to barely bear his teeth with a joyous smile at the sight of his people, merely allowing his lips to twitch as he stood towards the front. Midas and Ginnie were the highlight of the meeting so far, the two tiny dogs scuttling around to greet each and every person. At least there were some smiles on people’s faces in light of what had happened.

much was happening in northstar district, and mickey wasn't sure any of them were prepared for it all. from past experiences, mick felt well aware that these small events never tended to fizzle out on their own. they always left some sort of ripple, triggered some sort of after-effect that nobody could ever predict. seeing green's tired eyes and subtle frown as he awaited the meeting's start, he had a feeling that things were about to change. certain things you could just tell in a person, especially when you got to know them as well as mick did green. sat in his chair, he gently scratched ginnie and midas as they went about greeting newcomers, taking a seat at his usual spot.

I wish it was under better circumstances but… you are always welcome here. ❞ He cracked a small smile before craning his neck. Three youngsters. Green could remember being around their ages when he first found Northstar District. Back then, they weren’t prosperous by any stretch of the imagination but they made do with what they had. It was the resilience that inspired Green to continue on, and he hoped that he could influence these younger members in that same way. ❝ If you ever have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. If I don’t know the answer, I’ll know someone who does know. ❞

Biting down on his lip, Green pondered on whether he should discuss the good news or the bad news first. The bad news would weigh heavily on their shoulders all the same, so what was the point in his contemplations? Perhaps a moment of stalling, the knowledge of their grim situation soon to be brought to light for everyone to hear. Whilst Green was optimistic by nature, he couldn’t veil the truth from his people; that would be the greatest injustice of all. ❝ We were lucky to have a travelling circus visit. Wasn’t that fun? ❞ He let the question linger in the hopes of bringing back the fond memories, smiling faintly as several people whispered with a hushed agreement. ❝ From the sounds of it, I doubt that will be our last visit from them either so that’s something to look forward to! ❞

He released a sigh through a look of wavering hopefulness, eyes darting across the group before his smile faltered and then faded. ❝ Lastly, I know that this was what people were anticipating this meeting, but we need to talk about The Badlands raiding us again. ❞ He’d been betrayed this time, a hurt sitting deep within as Green wondered how a friend could turn on a loved one so swiftly. Green rarely expected much from people, but he at least expected morality to sit at the forefront of people’s minds. Perhaps Green was simply too kind and giving for this world. ❝ And, uh… we’re struggling to replace resources. Provisions, toiletries, weapons, medicine; it’s all gone. ❞ Through a sigh, Green looked off to the side, then murmuring, ❝ We’ll get it back, though. That’s a promise. In the meantime, we need to make do with what we’ve got and ration supplies to the best of our abilities. As well as that, we need to increase our defences so if anyone would like to take that on, then please. ❞

Slowly, Green took a step back, the corner of his lip twitching with uncertainty, ❝ We’ll all be okay. ❞ He assured, ❝ We’ve been through worse, we can get through this. ❞ Green would tell himself the same thing, time after time just for the reassurance that he may be right. They would get through this; he didn’t know how, but he knew that they had to.
