jp didn’t know whether he had made up his mind on how he felt about this place. granted, the weather was nicer than most other places. an oddly peaceful town full of kiss-asses. that seemed like the best way to sum this place up. he leaned back in his seat on the promenade as he turned to watch the shoreline, absently rolling the beer bottle in his hand back and forth atop the table. while he could sum this district up in one short sentence, it still was not exactly the place he figured he would find himself.

it wasn’t a place where he could manage to fit in, either. some people seemed almost too quick to welcome him in - already trying to convince him to stay. others were still reluctant, too “shaken up” after some group came in and shook them up a bit. his brows furrowed slightly, lifting his drink to his lips. if they got this scared about a couple of thugs coming in and taking their lunch money, then maybe they had bigger things to worry about.

so maybe he didn’t want to fit in among all of these kinds of people anyway. though he still knew a good place to stay when he saw one. it would be nice to have this place to kick his feet up and rest a bit longer before he hit the road again.

// just wanted to get a few more threads in here with jp before he packs up and heads elsewhere for a while
if anyone wants to plot with jp,,, hit me up,, pls

In fact, he believed that having such a gentle heart in a world so unkind was a sign of gallantry, not a sign of weakness. After all, these people ventured in a cruel world with soft skin whilst the majority remained cautious with their thick skin and guarded hearts. People like Green risked their own safety to provide others with a kindness they would receive from no one else, and maybe that was why Green adored his people’s peaceful natures. Strength didn’t come from brute force but from the ability to hold the weight of everyone’s world on one’s shoulders.

Perhaps this place wasn’t for everyone, though. Many people were far more used to shards of glass and bloodied knuckles than the nurturing embrace of a quaint coastal town where the weather was balmy and everyone knew each other’s name. It made it feel all the more safe when he could walk down the promenade, smiling and greeting Northerners as he passed by with his hands shoved in his pockets.

Until he passed by one of the newer members, JP. Green slowed to a stop, gaze darting across his features before lifting his hand as a wave. After hesitating for a moment, Green eventually began to speak. ❝ Enjoying the good weather today? ❞ He glanced up at the sky with squinted eyes and a hand to shield his gaze from the sun before adding, ❝ It only gets better as the weather warms up. ❞ As if he assumed JP would stick around.

if jackson allowed himself to look at northstar district with a different view, perhaps he would have thought otherwise. the fact of it all was that there were different ways to be strong, even while jp refused to acknowledge the idea. going out of one’s way to care for another person -  who most likely didn’t deserve it - spoke volumes. still, jackson would remain otherwise unmoving on the subject, not wanting to explore the subject much further than his own stubborn and set ways. maybe he didn’t want to for a reason.

because, along with all of his disdain, there was also a bitterness. a hint of jealousy, even. when he got thrown to the goddamn wolves all those years ago, he had to learn to grow up. there wasn’t a place for him to be gentle and unaware about the darker parts of the new world. it wasn’t a place for the faint of heart, and jp had to learn to grow up fast if he wanted to endure in a world so cruel. he couldn’t remember what it was like to be so soft if he tried, and perhaps that was why he felt an ache of bitterness.

he never got the chance to be like these northerners.

eyes wandered over towards green as he slowed to a stop. waved. jp’s blinked, his gaze meeting green with an unwelcoming stare - not that green ought to take it personally, since jp was almost always opposed to welcoming conversation. still, as standoffish as the dark-haired man was - or because green was simply oblivious as hell - it didn’t seem to put the district’s leader off as he eventually spoke. turning his head, he raised his drink to his lips. “it’s alright,” he said shortly before taking a sip. “i won’t be sticking around much longer to see it.” while others often tried to entertain the idea of sticking around, or they didn’t have the heart to tell the truth about leaving, jp tended to be fairly upfront about it.

placing his drink down on the table, he waited a moment before he asked, “how did you end up becoming leader of this place, anyway?” although the tone lacked judgment - it was a question more out of curiosity - it still sounded a bit judgmental nonetheless. surely he wasn’t the only one wondering how green came to become a leader of a well-off district, right?
