[div style="text-align: justify;width:400px;margin: 0 auto;line-height:14px;font-family: arial;font-size:9pt"]i haven't been in tow long, but i always thought it was supposed to be a world-wide thing.  perhaps all at once, or more like a sweep across the globe.  starting somewhere and then moving out.  with no where to go, people who weren't the first to be hit by the blackout would try to stock up and do whatever they could to ensure their survival.  but this led to an explosion of violence as well as people fought to take hold of resources.  and kinda along the lines of what scully said, those who had time tried to teach what they could or save academic works

and then assuming it is only in america, it makes me wonder just what the rest of the world is like then if these people who live here cannot get out (if that make sense).  or that people with no where else to go / people who are trying to escape frequently move away from civilization and into tnw because no one dares follow.  perhaps because they assume people living in such an environment won't survive, or that the communities there have been reduced to inferior beings who don't deserve to be assisted.

not entirely head canons? more like speculation building from my meager thoughts, but yeah :,)

[align=center][div style="width: 400px; text-align: justify; font-size: 12px; font-family: calibri; letter-spacing: .6px; color: #494949;"]cas, the concept of the kids of tnw being fascinated at things from before the blackout is so cute!

holy shit, beats, i LOVE all of those! and yes, tnw is set in usa, but the blackout is a world wide thing.

& the blackout began with an initial attack, about twenty years ago, but electricity finally entirely went out nine years ago! so, i've always thought those in power and or the rich still had luxuries for awhile before it all died out.

[align=center][div style="width: 400px; text-align: justify; font-size: 12px; font-family: calibri; letter-spacing: .6px; color: #494949;"]so, i know i always have headcanons for tnw that i always kind of follow, but they aren’t rules/guidelines or written anywhere. that being said, i was curious if anyone else had headcanons like that and that we could share them!
  • i feel like pregnancies are much more common because of the lack of access to contraception, but miscarriages, still births, and just general birth complications are even more common.
  • the ivory tower of academia is essentially non existent to those who were born after the black out. the only ones who have some education is if they were privileged or if parents/people around them were dedicated to passing down traditional education.
  • most everyone has basic survival skills( i. e. starting a fire, hunting/fishing, handling the cold or heat, basic botany knowledge, etc. )
  • most dogs are mixed breeds at this point?
  • air quality and pollution are really clearing up. forests and plains are also thriving.

i’ll probably add more as i figure them out or encounter them, but please share if you guys have anything!

Track!! I wonder if each district has their own accents, or if kids born after the blackout kinda inherit their parents' accent? Also, I think that it would be fascinating to hear about the new generation being raised on stories of these almost mythical devices running on electricity, like toasters or radios. These kids just being enfatuated by food being heated up without using fire of any kind!! like how does it work?? idk that sounds fun haha

oooo will think of more!

- food that isn't fresh meat, veggies, fruits, nuts, made with grains/wheat is hard to come across. there are of course dry foods that can outlast 20+ years on a shelf but most of them are gone/have been scavenged. beef jerky/any type of jerky is a big thing because it's protein that can be dried and kept for a long amount of time

- i've always thought of tnw taking place in north america ( it does, right?? if i remember correctly. otherwise, just ignore me sdfkg ) and the badlands being situated somewhere on the west coast, probably in modern day california. flintlock gives me midwest vibes, like colorado or something. same with bluestem, though they're obvs somewhere nebraska-ish. los santos is v new mexico/arizona to me and northstar district... maybe california as well? or oregon

- people travel on horseback/in horsedrawn caravans, whether they bring their own horses or hitch a ride with someone else. they can travel short distance on like... bicycle? maybe? other than that, it takes a while to travel from group to group

- also i'm agreeing with most dogs being mixed breeds! i also think that most strays are very scraggly/skinny and even dangerous to come across. they have loads of fleas, medical issues that have gone untreated without modern medicine, and even rabies since there are no vaccines. this p much goes for all other animals as well ( unless the animal has been kept indoors/closely monitored and kept healthy their entire lives ).

again, this is just my personal perception of tnw! it's not meant to be taken seriously haha
