After all, despite the obvious motive for his trip, Eddie also had to admit that he missed the company of his best friend. Eddie hadn’t seen Mick in a couple of months, especially after Ed’s run-in with the Carbines in January. But, today, his trip would focus on his announcement of the new renovated village and it opening up for the general public. Northstar was generous enough to provide Flintlock with healthcare if need be, and so Flintlock would be happy to offer the services provided in the village, too.
Eddie began to wander through Northstar, arms folded across his chest as he searched around for somebody to stop. Eyes locked onto somebody, Eddie’s brows knitting together ever-so-slightly before he stopped them to ask in a quiet mumble, ❝ Hey, do you know where I could find Green, or if somebody could pass a message onto him? ❞ And if he could find Mickey, perhaps Eddie would stick around for a couple of hours with the people of Northstar.

— the last time mick saw eddie, he felt overwhelmed with a confusing mix of anxiety and unfamiliar relief. only moments before on that same day, he thought it would have been the last time he ever saw his best friend. eddie risked everything, including his own life, to make sure the carbines were gone once and for all. the whole night he found himself sitting in the chair placed in the corner of his room, leg bouncing anxiously as he watched the rise and fall of eddie’s chest while he slept in his bed. it was hard to look away from the weak rise and fall of his chest; the sight of eddie laid out across the bloodied snow and not breathing, pulse weak and fading fast made him too afraid, too paranoid to look away again. the sight was burned into his mind, even after he was absolutely certain eddie would make a full recovery. it still haunted him from time to time, a living nightmare he didn’t want to face.
mickey was aware that nobody in his life would be permanent. he knew he’d lose everyone eventually. however, there was a certain fondness for the other man that made him desperately wish that eddie would stick around. just this once, let somebody be permanent. the thought of losing eddie was simply too much to bear. his chest ached every time he thought about that day in january, performing cpr to bring eddie back. more than anything he felt immensely overwhelmed. he truly learned just how far eddie would go for him; he would risk everything if it meant helping his friend. that fierce loyalty... who wouldn’t adore that man even more after all he had done? if it wasn’t for eddie, he wouldn’t have this second shot at life. he owed him everything. mickey could only hope to someday try and return the favor.
settled outside of one of the district cafes - leaning back comfortably in his chair, a hand resting on the table - he absently watched people go about their days. eyes wandered towards a familiar face, gaze lingering for just a moment. what was eddie doing here? pushing himself up from his chair, he began to wander over towards the pair.
“um- i don’t know where he is… do you want me to find someone to pass the message on to green?” releasing a short breath, he made his way over.
“i can pass the message onto him.” he was sure to run into vernon later in the day; come to think of it, mick rarely spent his evenings without green. even as he spoke the plain words, it was laced with a certain emotion that couldn’t quite be placed. just glad to see his best friend again, a certain look in his eyes that spoke that emotion so subtly. shifting his weight, his lips briefly threatened to twitch into a smile. “i was wondering when i’d see you again.” there was a silent, ”about time,” in his eyes. he was too stubborn to admit just how much he’d missed his friend out loud for everyone else to hear.
“what brings you here?” the pair hadn’t spoken in a while - not since january, mick quickly realized. although, despite the distance apart, it felt easy to walk over to ed and strike up conversation as if they hadn’t been apart for almost half a year.
// hello muse how are you
There was a loud babble from Felicity as she and her mother approached the two men. Felicity of course recognized Mickey right away, reaching over and grabbing onto him, just babbling on and smiling while Paige looked to Eddie. She knew who he was, of course, she'd gone to Flintlock before.
"I can relay to him too, though I think Mickey's more likely to see him first though" she joked, the ex-bandlander instead just rubbing her daughter's back who was more interested in Mickey than what was going on. "How's flintlock, hm?" she asked curiously, keeping herself oblivious of whatever awkward reunion was going on. Instead, she made conversation like it wasn't weird for her to not be in the Badlands, because at this point she couldn't remember who the hell knew she was in Northstar and who didn't. It was exhausting, really.
Felicity then took less interest in Mickey for a moment, getting fussy which was quick to get Paige's attention with a heavy sigh and tired glare at the seven-month-old before looking to Eddie "You have two of these right? You're fuckin' psychotic" she muttered, bouncing her daughter in her arms and kissing her cheek. She had started teething, meaning she got a much more fussy Licity.

Without CPR from the doctor, Eddie would not have survived the near-drowning. Eddie only lived to see another day because Mickey had been in the right place at the right time. Now, all signs of the persecution had faded bar a small scar on the side of his head, no reminder of the incident apart from the way they looked at each other. Ed owed everything to Mickey after what he did to keep Eddie from dying. Even whilst there were often times where Eddie wondered whether this life of his was worth living, he could not deny that terror he felt when his head was being held beneath the water.
If it would keep Mickey safe, then Eddie would willingly repeat the past if he had to, despite all of the emotional scars and that deep-set fear of drowning.
Nowadays, he had since healed - at least physically, and that would be good enough for him.
As he spoke to the NPC, she looked around for anybody she could direct him to until gesturing to an approaching figure. And, as Eddie looked up, his eyes landed on his best friend. Features softened ever-so-slightly, eyes shifting across Mickey’s features. ❝ I was wondering when I’d see you again. ❞ Eddie felt the corners of his lips threaten to twitch into a smile, instead features impassive save for a rare glint in his eyes. ❝ It’s been a busy few months in Flintlock. ❞ He returned quietly, his head nodding slow. And, despite his reluctance to admit anything out loud, there was a certain look in his gaze which indicated just how pleased he was to see Mickey again.
He was a sense of normality in a life which had felt as if it’d been tipped on its head.
A woman he recognised soon approached, mentioning that Mickey would more than likely see Green first. That was a very specific comment. ❝ Oh yeah? ❞ He questioned, glancing between the both of them curiously as if expecting them to have a reason why. Wasn’t this woman from the Badlands? Eddie was a perceptive man, putting faces to groups and names to faces if he ever learned of their identity. But her? He’d never quite gotten her name yet. ❝ Flintlock is doing well. In fact, it’s why I’m here today. Mind if we sit down somewhere? ❞
Eddie glanced between the two of them for an answer. It would be far easier to talk about it whilst sitting down. Plus, he was exhausted from his trip. ❝ You have two of these, right? ❞ Eddie narrowed his eyes and tipped his chin up ever-so-slightly, glancing at the young child before back towards the woman, amused at her choice of words about him. ❝ Actually- ❞ He glanced back at Mickey for a moment - he ought to hear the news, too - ❝ Last week my ex-wife gave birth to another set of twins. Two boys. Took us by surprise. You thought one was crazy; try four. ❞

— mick thought highly of edmund, in a world where very few seemed to regard him to the same degree. there was a connection between them that was hard to deny; a close friendship that was hard to truly understand or decipher unless you were part of it. he adored edmund as a best friend and confidant, one of the few people truly close to mick’s own heart. to see him up and about, fully recovered from the incident after last seeing him barely clinging onto life -- it was a sight that he needed to see. although he never worded it out loud, it was obvious in his gaze. he was glad to see his friend again.
a loud babble made him turn his head, watching paige come over with felicity. the kid reached out to him and grabbed onto him, enough to prompt him to gently take one of her hands. “felicity, hey,” he uttered to licity gently, giving her some much-wanted attention as paige talked about relaying the message too, though mick would probably get to green first. he glanced at paige before looking over towards eddie.
“oh yeah?” ed glanced between the two of them curiously, silently prompting for either of them to elaborate. mick’s lips twitched briefly, though he otherwise didn’t budge. instead he quietly cleared his throat, gently shaking his head, a silent promise to talk about it later. he only realized then that a lot had changed for him in six months. ever since the realization hit him - that the carbines were gone, that there was no longer a target on his back - mick found that he had a new lease on life entirely. for the first time in a long time, he got to experience life without the ever-present worry and paranoia of something worse to come. he had the chance to just be, to live. neither of which would have been possible without ed.
eddie almost lost his life in order to give mickey everything. it would be nice to let the man in on everything that had happened since then; without him, this life of his could’ve been completely different. mick would’ve never had the chance to find happiness with green, or even with himself. instead he acknowledged ed’s request to find somewhere to sit.“sure,” he hummed, glancing around the street. he gestured down the street towards a nearby cafe, tables set up outside. “we can sit there.” strolling over, hands in his pockets, he hummed. they could catch up later, after eddie spoke about the reason he came here.
and, apparently, there was more to catch up on than he thought. brows raised subtly in subdued surprise. ex-wife. a new set of twins. it was his turn to look at the man with subtle curiosity as he said, “oh, yeah?” though it wasn’t evident what he was hinting at, he felt like it was still enough to get his point across. sliding into one of the seats at the table, he looked at ed for a moment longer before asking, “what brings you to the district, ed?”
