AHN SEORA

DANCED IN THIS PARKADE ALONE, NOTHING ( HERE ) FELT MORE LIKE HOME ・✧
seora wasn't doing well in math. or in english. or in anything, for that matter.

"remember, there's a quiz in two days! if you have any questions, ask now."

she did have questions, but for now, she settled for a strand of hair around her pencil.

you could do so much if you just apply yourself! she could hear her mom's voice echo. she guessed she could. she really could. but why?

and the things that were happening here were distracting, to say the least. being thrown into a friend group she didn't exactly ask for was one thing, but a murder?

she hated that the first thing that came to mind when she heard was that she couldn't use the pool for a while. to her credit, it was a valid concern - what was she supposed to do now? maybe it was a sign from god telling her to finally start studying for her classes, or to get over her stupid crush on her roommate, claudia (whom she was convinced was straight as a ruler).

seora groaned, burying her face in her hands. she hated it here.

"take one and pass it down."

she took a worksheet for herself and handed the rest over to her seatmate, jane.

jane was cool. she didn't talk much, and didn't seem too outgoing, either, which was a nice switch from seora's usual company. and going off of the conversations they've had, she seemed nice, too. she overheard a couple of students talking about her supposed "past", but she called bullshit.

"you ready for the quiz?" she smiled, untangling the pencil from her hair.

JANE B.

IT'S A TERRIBLE, FEELING ( BEING THE ) GHOST ON THE WALL THAT'S ALWAYS DISAPPEARING
jane felt like she was cursed or something.

like a dark cloud, murder seemed to follow her. first sandra brooks, now a kid— she wasn't even associated with him in the slightest, not like she had been with sandra, yet it still put her on edge.

she didn't even do it, and yet she's still hard on herself. guilty by association, one could say. she knew river resented sandra brooks; and yet, out of love for him, she kept it to herself. maybe she thought she could save him. now she had to face the consequences as if they were her own.

while a lot of her was down ( she cried for about a week straight ), she was beginning to soak up the tears. embrace this new chapter in her life at st. petersburg. instead of trapping herself inside, she was beginning to get out. meet new people— even procrastinate! not good, but it was those small things that made her feel more of herself.

this was good for her. and plus, everyone loved the new girl trope.

but she's a little less herself with the murder mention; although she tries to appear unbothered. her doing that, however, meant her dwelling on anything other than her reality. she dwelled in her thoughts and, in turn, ended up staying awake til 4am. she didn't even remember they had a quiz today.

seora solidified that for her. it bares very little reaction, though. her head is cradled in her hands, tired eyes dragging over to seora to acknowledge her question. "not in the slightest," she mumbled, nearly forgetting to pass the stack to the next person over. "did you?" at least if seora didn't , they'd have some semblance of solidarity together.

that was sorta comforting.

seora snorted, mouthing a 'no'. she wasn't ready today, and she had a feeling she wouldn't be ready in two days, either.

"okay, you all are dismissed! make sure to show up on time for your quiz next class!"

she rested her forehead against the table. she was. so. tired. she shifted to look at jane. "we can study for this together, if you want?" she wasn't usually the one to put forth an invitation, but jane..was someone she could bear. "this doesn't seem..too hard, right?" she cocked an eyebrow, taking the paper and flipping it over.

she stole another glance at jane. she did hear what people were saying about her. something about a murder..and her using this school as a coverup? it seemed too far fetched. and even if it was true, jane looked like the kind of girl caught in the crossfire.

seora shifted.

the more she thought about it, the more she did seem kind of weird. was everyone here off the charts, or were they just too..them?

whatever.

"so, how do you like it here so far? is your roommate okay?" she asked, slinging her backpack over her shoulder.

IT'S A TERRIBLE, FEELING ( BEING THE ) GHOST ON THE WALL THAT'S ALWAYS DISAPPEARING
when seora mouths no, jane's lips twitch into a tiny grin. that confirmed it. that solidarity. dumb bitch solidarity, she calls it.

luckily, math was her second to last subject. after this, she'd get home. and she wouldn't rest until she'd memorized these equations in her brain. she knew, even as she thought it, that it was bullshit. even as she sat at her desk, she somehow ended up dwelling on literally anything else until she was left to panic six hours in advance.

that is, unless seora was with her. depending on the individual, she was able to put herself on track when another person was in her company. sometimes. at least if she ended up procrastinating, she wasn't doing it alone. "ah, yeah." she's agreeing to both questions and even as she flips the page, she knows that she hasn't much clue about what is looking back at her. "i'm sure we can figure it out."

jane wasn't dumb. she wasn't oblivious to the thoughts, the whispers. with the brooks case being publicized, she didn't enter the halls of st. petersburg expecting an entirely clean slate. as much as she'd have liked one. the court proved her innocence, though, so what did she have to prove to others? she'd love to say she didn't care. but easier said than done.

if anyone looked at me with ill-will, at least it isn't seora.

"it's not bad," jane murmurs, hastily stuffing the study sheet in her math folder before placing it in her backpack, slinging it over her shoulder. "i'm afraid that if i say anything else, though, i'll be sent straight to a confessional." she's acting as if that isn't where she spent a chunk of her free time when she wasn't studying or writing. "she's a little more to herself. so, not bad but not good, either."

maybe jane should be relieved to be roomed with someone not too far from herself; but what was the excitement in that? a good protagonist always had someone to take them out, thrust them into the spotlight. her roommate had no desirnable affect. "you seem like you'd be the better one." seora was like her, but somehow, she knew people. the ones who seemed to be the life of the party, at least here. she wanted that.

"you seem like you'd be the better one."

"hm? really?" she paused in her tracks briefly before collecting herself. "oh, c'mon." she giggled, shaking her head. she knew jane was just saying that. seora didn't have much to offer; she wasn't good in the academics department, and most of her hobbies involved her keeping to herself. though she did happen to know a lot of people, it was mostly due to the company her roommate had over.

speaking of which, there was a get-together being planned tonight. maybe she should ask jane. at least seora would have someone to talk to besides..ugh.

"hey, there's this..party thing tonight. do you know rey moreno? it's at his place." she said after stopping at the top of the stairs. "you can come, if you want." seora still didn't know what jane was into. she just..seemed nice, and was good at math. and at the moment, that was good enough for her.

seora opened the door to her dorm and tossed her bag inside. she held it open, debating on her next step. the pool was closed, and she didn't have anything else to do, besides..work.

she pursed her lips. seora was planning to move out of this room, too. she'd already talked to the supervisor downstairs.

so yeah. if she thought about it for long enough, there was actually a lot to do.

she glanced over her shoulder at jane. "wanna come in?"
