So, lets talk about territory expansion in Flintlock Lodge. I think it is time we make better use of the village so that less threads are based within the lodge and more are based in the village. Well, more have the chance to be based in the village because I think we all know that there is so much untapped potential there. So, after a little bit of chatting with Inny, I think we have a pretty solid suggestion and I would love people's input!
Flintlock's territory is admittedly restricted at times. They're on top of a mountain all confined in close proximity of one another with the same routine a lot of the time. So, how about we have Flintlock begin to reinvent the entirety of the village? Bring that vacant place to life? For years now it's been largely ignored save for the stables and the barn that reside there so how about the people of Flintlock all come together and begin to turn the village into a fully functioning ❛ ski resort ❜? Ski resort in quotation marks because I don't mean we turn Flintlock into a holiday resort but more so they make use of what is already there.
There are empty shops which can be claimed by your characters to sell off any goods, or there can be a cafe, or a first aid facility, a mountain patrol headquarters, game rooms, bars, a miniature theater (because I remember that Hayley had acquired a television with some films), clothing stores, a shop where a trapper can sell animal pelts and whatnot, an antique shop etc.
Then, perhaps in the village is where Flintlockers can also offer sledding, skiing horse-drawn sleds, dog-sledding, ice-skating, swimming, ice fishing, a sauna or even hot tubbing (if there's a way we could work smth out for that) to visitors who come to the village to make use of the businesses etc. There can even be some lodgings in the village for travelers, traders and visitors to rent temporarily from Flintlock Lodge but they aren't joining FL as a group so to speak. They're just staying in the village to trade, make use of the amenities and whatnot.
We were thinking that bringing more people to the village for a particular purpose would make more sense. Say someone wants to go skiing then they'll visit FL's village, rent a chalet, rent some skis and go skiing where FL receives a payment of some supplies from them in return. It just gives people more reason to be travelling towards FL even despite the horrible weather and trek up the mountain. Therefore, there's more there for newcomers to initially be interested in before joining FL. Essentially, it can give newcomers more purpose when they stumble on FL because perhaps they knew that the village had places to trade etc.
Additionally, the plus side of the village being a walk away from the lodge is that the lodge would then be reserved for members of FL solely and so it won't be like there is constantly a massive footfall of strangers around the lodge. And also like if the village is busy and full of life, perhaps that becomes a new meeting place for joiners? Perhaps there is an ❛ information hub ❜ where a newcomer can go to and ask to join FL?
Plus, most importantly, it makes way for new plot and thread ideas! Gives FL a little more flavor and variety which would be very exciting.
What are your thoughts on it? Yay? Nay? Any ideas on how to improve the idea? Should we even go through with this idea? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
