starry night // open, stargazing

She had moved what they used to sit on away, instead laying on the ground near the fire, letting it be the only light to signal someone was awake. She of course, had changed since her near-drowning experience earlier that day, but nothing that would really keep her all too warm but she didn't want to wake anyone by getting a blanket. Instead, she had used the fire to make some rather shit coffee, but she supposed it worked.

She put the cup with the drink away from her, close enough she could get it without burning but she also didn't want to knock it over. Odessa, on the other hand, was laying on her back. She had lived on her own for seven maybe eight years and this was the one thing she found calming every time. The stars, the night sky. It was pretty, especially when they were all out with the moon lighting them up. She knew a few constellations, the basic ones mostly: Orion's belt, little dipper, big dipper.

The look on Odessa's face, in her eyes alone, could resemble that of a child. She was only a child between ages eleven and now, and the stars were to thank. Though hearing something move nearby, the childlike awe left her face and instead she reached for the cup of her drink - the closest possible weapon - though she had placed it too close to the fire and was quick to move her hand: she burned it ah yes cause this was a shit day getting worse.

"Fuckin' hell" she breathed, glancing back up at the sky "You scared me"

Whether it was the uncomfortable sleeping bag or the sound of nocturnal wildlife around them, Tommy couldn’t sleep and he ought to accept that he just wasn’t going to get very much rest that night. Eventually, he sat up, stretching tight muscles, before quietly stumbling out of the tent.

A single campfire crackled peacefully, Odessa laying down as she stared up at the sky. Lifting his head, Tommy too allowed for his eyes to wander across the constellations for a moment. No wonder she lay back in awe - the sky was stunning. He began to wander over, quietly uttering, ❝ Can’t sleep, ‘ey? ❞ ❝ Fuckin’ hell. ❞ He blinked, watching with a slight frown as the girl managed to burn herself. Shit luck, huh? ❝ You scared me. ❞

❝ Wasn’t my intention though, was it now? ❞ He retorted, hesitating for a second before sitting down on the other side of the fire. ❝ I can’t sleep either. ❞ Not that she particularly cared, but it did explain why he was here in the first place. The man looked up at the sky, thinking about what he could say. Tom wanted to ask how she was after the incident earlier that day but he knew she’d get pissed off. ❝ I know fuck all ‘bout stars ‘n’ shit. ❞ He decided to point out instead, albeit curtly. At least he was trying.
