    ❝ A'right. On your mark. Get set... ❞ Ed stood at the bottom of a smaller slope, hands on his hips as he called up to a very eager Henry and Ida. The two children both sat on their respective sleds, Henry rocking himself side to side excitedly whilst Ida squinted at Eddie competitively. Ed raised his brows ever-so-slightly, pausing, before announcing, ❝  Snowman. ❞

❝ Eddie! ❞ Ida and Henry both squealed in perfect unison, Ed huffing a short breath of amusement before he continued, ❝ On your mark. Get set... Buffalo. Swimming pool. Fish... G- ❞ The children shifted on their sleds, sat on the edge as they waited for the word. ❝ Goldfish. ❞ Ed's features were impassive, yet there was an amused glimmer in his eyes as he watched the two children squirm impatiently. Finally, he said, ❝ Go. ❞

And, off Henry and Ida went, Henry's sled hurtling through the snow as Ida's sled went as a more leisurely pace. Henry slid over the finish line, Ida following close behind as she proclaimed, ❝ Henry cheated! It's not fair! He pushed before you said go! ❞

❝ I didn't! ❞

❝ Yeah, you did! ❞

❝ A'right, a'right. I think we need a referee at the top of the slope, don't y'think? ❞ Ed suggested, Ida quickly nodding her head before Eddie gestured for the children to climb back up the hill. ❝ We need a referee! ❞ Ida called out towards the lodge as she clambered up the hill, tugging her sled behind her hurriedly.

“a referee?”

of course, with all of the exploring he was doing, it was no surprise that he was first to the scene, scratching slightly at his cheek in such a delicate way that none of his paint even slightly chipped. if they needed a referee, he certainly wouldn’t mind, as long as it didn’t lead to the children pelting his with snowballs.

“ill gladly be the referee, if edmund here allows me.”he offered, his gaze turning to the younger man. he knew he was quite the sight, and a little frightening for some, especially children, so he just put on that smile, hoping he may not look too sinister. that certainly wasn’t his intentions.

— ida calling out towards the lodge was enough to catch freddie’s interest. granted, he didn’t want to be a referee for the race. either way one of the kids would come out of it not too happy; fred didn’t want to put himself in a position where he could be blamed for one of them losing… mainly because he didn’t exactly play fair, either. he shoved his hands in his pockets and walked towards the slope.

“just a spectator,” he announced as he strolled over. he ruffled ida and henry’s hair as he wandered past the two. he made his way down the slope before stopping nearby eddie. the man looked impassive as ever; talk about resting bitch face… he nodded his head in greeting, murmuring, “ed.”

his gaze wandered up towards the top of the slope, gaze lingering on the two kids and their newfound referee. “race of the century, isn’t it?” it didn’t seem like any big deal or race; though it was still enough for fred to find amusement in his own remark.

    Eddie's gaze shifted towards Joker as the man wandered over, Ida and Henry seemingly unfazed at they clambered back onto their own sleds. ❝ Yeah, sure. ❞ Ed's confirmation was brief and to the point as he nodded his head towards Joker. Moments later, Ida pointed at Joker from where she sat, peering up at him with wide, masterful eyes. ❝ You have to stand here and make sure Henry doesn't cheat again! ❞ She explained vibrantly, Henry's bickering droning out in the background as Ida settled on the sled again.

As Freddie passed by, Henry shriveled his nose up with a smile as Fred ruffled his hair, eyes following his cousin closely. ❝ Freddie. ❞ Ed greeted shortly as his cousin stopped nearby. ❝ Yeah- ❞ Ed commented, shoving his hands in his pockets, ❝ The Olympics' got nothing on these two. You ready, Ida and Henry? ❞ The two children cheered as they watched Eddie carefully. ❝ A'right. Ready. Set. Go- ❞ And again, off the two children went, Henry passing the finish line first once again.

❝ I didn't cheat this time! ❞ Henry was quick to announce, Ed tipping his chin up before saying, ❝ I don't know- what do you think, Joker? ❞
