❝ Give me the fuckin' cig. ❞
❝ Get your own you bastard. ❞
Two men stood, patrolling the woods that evening. The sun had since disappeared and the moonlight had taken its place; dark and ominous. One sighed, eyes fluttering shut as he tipped his chin upwards, breathing in the crisp air. The cool breeze slipped through the darkness. The occasional rustle of the trees. Breath down the backs of their necks.
Eyes sprung wide, lips parting in a frenzied gasp as the next moment two knives were at their throats, slicing in meticulously until the bodies dropped. Peter's nose shriveled up - the man who he'd killed was nothing more than another statistic in his books, just another drop of blood to add to dark red hands. William couldn't help but grunt to himself as the man he'd just killed toppled backwards against his chest before crumbling down to his feet.
Gross, William contemplated as he nudged the body away with the toe of his shoe before slinking back through the trees. ❝ Have they been dealt with? ❞ Julia whispered beneath her breath, a cigarette clasped between two fingers as she calmly quirked a brow at the two men as they returned to the group who were readying themselves for a fight.
❝ Dealt like a pack of cards. ❞ William breathed back smoothly, eyes briefly looking towards the others before looking back to Julia.
She always came across like the matriarch of the group - the woman who knew exactly what she wanted and how to get it. Always so calm and collected, William could only imagine his aunt's mind working like clockworks. Calculative, steady, tick tick tick-
Peter brushed together gloved hands, lip curling as he kept his head low. He was suspicious, wary as he shifted his weight, sharp eyes examining his family. ❝ We need to deal with the rest. I want half of you going off to the left, the other half to the right. Surround them and shoot them all before they even realize we're there, all right? ❞ He uttered lowly beneath his breath, staring intensely at the others before turning and beginning to trudge to the left of the campsite.
William shrugged before strolling to the right, a casual skip in his step. Soon they all got into position, William's eyes scanning the people all sat around in the campsite, before Julia sent off the first bullet. Within moments, gunfire run throughout the woods, their enemies trapped among a gunfight.

dealt like a pack of cards? freddie couldn’t help the soft huff of breath that passed his lips. was now really the time for similes? i mean, really-- he glanced around at the rest of the group, the amusement of the remark seeming to fall flat to everyone else. it was enough for his own amusement to fall, trying to look as serious as the rest of them. there was still a small glimmer in his eyes, though.
as the group nodded and began to go their own ways, half towards the left and half to the right, fred nodded solemnly. his eyes wandered towards julia, peter, and then lastly to william who was practically skipping over to his spot. it didn’t take him long before he was slinking along in william’s footsteps, a small, muffled laugh sounding more like a snicker at the man’s enthusiasm- his own excitement peaking through the laughter as he settled nearby william.
it was contagious. then again, this had been something that the stirling family had been raised to do. take people out, deal with them like a stack of cards - keep raising the stakes and still coming out on top. of course, it was a fun game when you always won. he stood beside his brother, then, and began to line up his shot.
“dealt like a pack of cards, huh?” he repeated the phrase to william as he aimed at one of the people sat around the campsite, his tongue stuck out in concentration. “how about a royal flush?” the remark came moments after julia sent off the first bullet, prompting freddie to pull the trigger on his own gun.
royal flush was only fitting in fred’s eyes. after all, the man carried himself with such prestige he might as well be wearing a damn crown, regardless of julia’s tendency to call the shots. a man who seemed to have the world at his fingertips - or at least acted the part.
before his eyes, he watched the people stand up in horror, trying to run away and find cover before they could be shot. they didn’t have that long to react, though, before they would end up crumpling to the ground. fred watched as the bullets ripped, smirking to himself as he sent a bullet through a man’s skull. god, these people didn’t stand a chance...
he loved it.
[ wow this post sucked on so many levels but

To say that she didn't want to be here was an understatement.
She had a personal policy. Max ten hours of work, be that six to four, eight to six, ten to eight, twelve to ten... Whatever the combination may be, but on any given night she had no desire to be on the job past ten o'clock. And look, here she was, on the job, and it was after ten. She had a policy for this too. If they wanted her working nights they had to give her 48 hours notice and the day off before and after.
Did her family ever listen? No, and she wasn't getting paid extra for being on call either. But they were family - they could do whatever the fuck they wanted, and she just had to deal with it. And deal with it she did, because Evelyn was a professional. A professional complainer - but they knew what they were signing up for when they called her out here at this hour, and just like she accepted their bullshit because they were blood, they accepted hers.
She thinks they're getting the better deal.
Evelyn glanced up at the moon overhead, wishing she was literally anywhere else. She lowered her gaze when her brother and cousin came back, and to be quite fucking honest, she didn't find Will's card joke all that funny. Maybe if it was a goddamn reasonable hour, it would have been mildly amusing. Right now there was only one thing that was funny to her: staying out here even longer. It was funny enough to make her laugh, but it was a mad laugh, the sort you do when you're pulling your hair out and trying not to scream.
"Then can I go to bed?" She asked Peter, breaking off and going around, lining up her shot and getting ready for the momentary carnage. She might bitch and moan, but she'd get the job done. The firing started, and Evelyn was right there with them, dispatching as many people as she could. She didn't know who they were or what they'd done to cross her family, but did it matter? They were dead either way.

The Stirling family had merely wasted no time in waiting for looming danger. They were the big names around here and, as always, when in a game, the big names were always crowned the kings and queens.
Peter was gruff as he prepared to fight, followed closely by Julia and Evelyn who too were ready for the imminent carnage. He turned to look towards his sister, scowl on his features even though it was not directed towards her directly, but instead the natural pull of his features. ❝ You can do whatever the hell you want when we're done here. ❞ He grumbled softly before returning to preparing his weapon - he was tough on the exterior. Tough and troubled, and yet his sister understood. She always understood.
Julia frowned towards her niece and nephew, flicking her cigarette butt to the ground and stomping on it before heedlessly raising a gun and firing her first shot.
William, on the right side, wasted zero time as he crouched beside his brother before the pair of them began firing shots. Features were stern as he concentrated hard, reloading then firing. Reloading then firing. He did this until there was no more movement from the camp, a pleased smile growing to his lips. Call him insensitive, apathetic, maybe even a little wicked in his own right, but William felt nothing at the sight of the aftermath of a bloodbath. In fact, morbid curiosity wanted to draw him closer, observe each bullet hole in each body with childlike fascination.
But, he resisted the urge.
❝ You can play the game, but the house always wins. ❞ He sent a playful wink towards his younger brother following the growing list of card-related witticisms, standing up and brushing his trousers off. He then wandered back to where they began.
❝ I told them not to fuck with us. ❞ Julia commented as everybody met up once again, confident eyes squinting as she searched the faces of her niece and nephews. ❝ Lets go back to camp and have a drink or two. ❞ She was always so blunt in how she spoke, quirking a playful brow towards her family before leading the way.

— freddie still had adrenaline running in his veins, long after the gunfire stopped. he stood up along with his brother to brush the dirt off of his own pants, huffing a short breath at william’s witty remark. a few more witty comebacks came to mind- but with adrenaline still drumming in his ears and heart, the only reasonable course of action for fred was to fight with a little more than words.
“and i’m the king!” he couldn’t fight the grin on his lips as he knocked into will, lightheartedly throwing his arms around his older brother in some sort of headlock. freddie might have been the youngest of the stirling family, but he did seem to have an ego that was almost insurmountable - even if it was just for fun. he grunted with feigned effort as he pulled william’s head down, most of the noise instead coming out as bubbling laughter.
leave it up to a stirling to be completely unfazed after just committing nothing short of a massacre.
the roughhousing stopped once they were all together again, listening to julia. the grin on his face had faded to look more straight-faced- though, as he met her gaze while she searched through the group, his lips couldn’t help but twitch the slightest bit. oh aunt j. he adored her so much it was unreal. he glanced around at the other stirlings, then over his shoulder at the mess they left behind - shrugged, and followed the rest of them all back to the camp. a drink didn’t sound half bad at this point.
when they were all at the camp, frederick had been one of the first to grab a glass. however, he took two, and offered one of them to his aunt. what a kind gesture. it wasn’t like it was rare to see the youngest of her nieces and nephews buttering up to her - this was just one time out of a million at this point.

"I'm holding you to that." She muttered, eager to be done with this job as quickly and efficiently as possible. There should be no fear of that - she was a Stirling, among her kin. The art of spilling blood was one they had all mastered, and any job the Stirlings took on would be done ruthlessly.
Sure enough, Evelyn found herself surrounded by bodies. A few were moaning and struggling to move, grievously injured but clinging to their misery yet. She sighed - she didn't know which was worse, the ones that died quickly or the ones that hadn't. She tried not to think about it too much. It was harder on the job, when she hadn't flipped that switch in her brain that let her leave it all behind. She didn't enjoy this work, it was just what she was good at. What she was born to do.
And it was over. Julia was urging them back to camp for celebratory drinks. Of course she was. Evelyn wondered if they really were so celebratory, or a way for her family to numb themselves to her sins. It's not like she was any different, any better. She just didn't revel in the carnage. "I'll have a nightcap." She said, well aware of how boring that must make her, but she didn't care. Her sniping skills impressed them, not her social skills, and that's how it was supposed to be. She'd save her more personable moods for people that were, well, more personable. As much as she loved them all, they weren't the sort she'd go to parties with. Maybe she'd make an exception for Peter, if only to keep him out of trouble.
