    Lucerne was incapable of love of this kind. People - they tended to make his heart jump, all in the wrong ways. Instead, he was fully committed to impassiveness, self-denying and able to simply turn a blind eye to any sign of romance. He couldn't wed a human being when he was already married to a life of ambition, working on the various little projects which intrigued him. Science, medicine, art and nature - there was a lot more to life than love, he believed. Perhaps some would wonder how Lucerne could be all right with this way of life - it was a lonely man's life - but Lucerne was all right with this. After all, he'd be the very worst lover if he ever did open up to anybody. He was a vile man, but not even he could punish somebody so harshly by providing them with his company.

Austin and Molly were unlike Lucerne. Happy in love. Settled down in a life of domestic bliss. Salem did not like weddings, was something he was quickly finding out. Why should he give two shits if two people were declaring to kiss and fuck each other exclusively for the rest of their lives? It's not like a ceremony was necessary between lifelong friends, so obviously it mainly pertained to the coupley type things.

He'd never been to a wedding before Flintlock's wedding. Sure, back on the ship he could technically marry couples, but nobody was ballsy enough to publicly declare their weakness for another person's company like that.

He was kind of glad the casino hadn't exploded in- praise or whatever. Then he would've felt out of place with bitterness and frustration clouding his thoughts. "Cool, good for you." Salem said, taking a sip of his drink and turning his attention back to the game of cards he'd been engaged in.

— renewing their vows? people actually did that? huh. he thought it was something people just talked about, not something that people actually ended up doing. he glanced between the two of them, unsure how exactly they wanted him to react. it seemed like catalyst had said what addy was thinking, and lucerne seemed stuck on the idea of what difference renewing vows could possibly make. maybe because they’re not dumb shits when it comes to love, bastard.

not that addy ever claimed to be good when it came to love. he was probably just as bad as lucerne. at least he’d been bad enough to fall for someone unable to love him back - that was a pretty dumb move. “congrats,” he ended up saying, unsure what else to say.

Austin and Molly were already married. That was probably more or less common knowledge, right? Nearly two decades apart hadn't been able to shake their loyalty to each other, and their faithfulness was rewarded with their reunion. After so long, their family was whole once more, and even bigger than before with the addition of Paige and Gavril and Mo. Somehow, though, he was pretty sure that he was on the best terms with the baby (aside from Molly, of course).

But this wasn't about anyone but Austin and his wife. Well, he'd had talked to Cat about it and gotten their blessing, but it still wasn't about them. Then talked about it with Molly in private, and now it was time to make the big announcement. The two of them stood in the casino together, Molly looking as excited and happy as the day they'd announced their initial engagement. He probably was too, in all honesty.

He squeezed her hand and looked around. "We've got an announcement to make." He said, barely able to keep his excitement contained. "We're renewing our vows!" Molly blurted, hardly giving people in the casino the chance to turn their head.
