but this wasn't the old world. this was an entirely new one, newer still with the recent loss of everyone he knew. his mother, his sort of friends, the entirety of o.d.i.n. had all but vanished after the raid. he and lana had gotten out, but everyone else? by the time they returned, the building was empty and smoking.
so he moved on. he moved on because he still had lana, and despite all the grief she gave him, and despite all the fighting, and despite their not-even-close-to-recent breakup, he loved her. he wouldn't ever admit it, hardly even to himself, but lana had been the one from the day he'd met her, and no amount of flings and one night stands could change that. but he'd royally fucked up on all too many occasions, he'd cheated on her and he'd broken her heart time and time again, and it would seem he'd run out of chances for her to give him.
so he settled for being her sort of friend. and he settled for random women in random bars, and he settled for whatever this was between them. a comfortable familiarity, some place where jealousy wasn't really appropriate but it also sort of was at the same time. it didn't help his cause, or his frustrations, or whatever that one night, not too long ago, in a nearly blackout drunken haze, he'd apparently... fathered her child. and now it was all sort of complicated and messy, and despicable as this place and it's people might be, this is where they needed to be. lana couldn't continue running around as her pregnancy went along, moving place to place, and this place was... well, it was the only place they'd really fit in. even if they weren't bad people, their skill set was morally gray; they'd been spies, hired assassins, mercenaries. they were good at killing people, and medical and farming groups wouldn't find any value in them.
so there he stood, patiently waiting on the road, his... lana at his side. their options had been the winding mountain pass or the beach, and even if lana was pregnant and her feet were swollen or whatever pregnant women had to deal with, there was no way in hell he was getting sand in his shoes, mountain pass they'd gone.
❝someone's gonna be here, any minute now,❞ archer said confidently, retrieving his flask from his coat pocked to take a sip before returning it, ❝there's no way they didn't hear you clomping down the mountain.❞ and this, this was why archer and lana were no longer archer and lana.

[div style="width: 350px; text-align: justify; font-family: helvetica; font-size: 9pt; line-height: 1.4;"]lana kane's parents had also pushed her to being the best. they both succeeded in the fields they entered, pressuring her to the point where she would often get sick thinking about not making them proud. she succeeded in the field she chose as she got older as well, though she wasn't a college professor like they had been. she had become an o.d.i.n. agent. she didn't worry when it came to being an agent, she didn't get sick to her stomach when she went on missions. she was made to be an agent, she liked the adrenaline rush with it and was happy with her decision to do that instead of sit behind a desk all day. lana was close to the best and if it weren't for sterling archer, she probably could have been the best. as stupid and immature as that man was, he was a damn good agent. she wasn't going to tell him that though, it would only go to his head.
archer had been a consistent face in lana's life after she started working for o.d.i.n. and they had a stronger history than just being coworkers. even though they hadn't been an item for awhile, she still cared about him - even loved him. no matter how much he pissed her off, she always ended up finding herself being drawn back in by his piercing blue eyes. however, the last time she went back to him was different, this time she ended up pregnant.
it could've been worse, she supposed. archer was an obviously attractive man, so their baby would have beautiful genes. it was archer though. he was content with the idea of being a father now, but lana knew very well that his opinions could change in six months when the baby is born. there had always been a part of her that knew she wanted to have kids some day. if it wasn't for the baby on the way, lana was even entirely sure if she would have stayed alongside archer. she was a strong woman, but she wasn't sure if she could do this alone.
lana stopped by archer's side, her hands on her hips as she looked around. her attention was now on her partner as she turned to look at him, her eyes narrowed. "don't worry, i'm sure the sound of me smacking you will grab their attention." it wasn't a real threat. for now. "and do you really have to be drinking right now?

He never used to be this quiet, the red headed man with the limp and the cane, and the spiked rainbow choker around his throat. He used to ramble to himself, about the butterflies, the bees, the dolphins and godhood, but things had changed since his return from Springfield. The medication made him different. He wasn't manic, still eccentric, he supposed, but not in a way that actively disturbed others.
His fingers gripped the pale blue glass eye at the top of his carved wooden cane with force, as he limped along the outskirts of the town with a sigh, enjoying the weather. His coordination was a bit off, ever since he had started taking the valium, so he wasn't surprised when he tripped over his own feet. Luckily, Sheogorath caught himself with a stumble before falling to his face in the dirt. His cane certainly helped him regain his composure. For a moment, the world swirled, and he felt drowsy and cloudy-minded, but the feeling passed after a moment of brief confusion.
That was when he saw them, two individuals upon the border, both unfamiliar, both strangers. He was certain of that, because he didn't recognize either of them, and they seemed to be waiting for someone to approach, rather than entering the seaside town as invaders. Perhaps they were joiners? Sheogorath ran his hand through his fiery hued hair, ruffling the red strands there to clear his mind of any fogginess. Squinting through the sunlight that dazzled his eyes, he approached.
"Hullo. Welcome to...The Badlands." His voice was a bit slurred and slow, noticeable even amidst his thick Scottish accent. It was dull and robotic, entirely monotone, but he wasn't trying to sound like that. He wasn't trying to sound half sedated and half dead inside. He wasn't. Well, maybe a little bit. It was mostly his autism. He struggled to find any amount to tone to his voice when he wasn't manic. The fact that he was on a sedative-hypnotic medication didn't help. "I'm Sheogorath. Who...are you two?" The red head asked curiously. He hoped he didn't sound too unfriendly. |
[sup]AND I HOPE THAT YOU'LL REMEMBER ME
Molly hadn't pushed them. What was she to push besides doing their lessons and being a good kid? She hadn't really had to push for that, believe it or not. They did their chores, kept their room clean, read all the books she gave them, never caused any issue for her until the night before they ran away. But then, after running with a pack of feral children for a couple years, they found themself under another parental authority. That one pushed them plenty.
They went from the sweet, kinda shy kid that did everything their mother wanted before she even asked to... Well, the person that prowled the streets of the Badlands today. The ruthless monster that was just adept at killing as the next person. But somewhere, deep down, under the layers of apathy and detachment and blood, there was a shred of the sensitive soul they used to be. It could be glimpsed when they were with their family, but that was just about it. To the rest of the world they were an asshole.
They were still getting used to this latest version of Sheogorath, the one that was subdued but not exactly sad. But taking in the man that didn't so much as mention butterflies wasn't exactly the priority right now, with two strangers that looked halfway ready to killing each other. They jerked their thumb in Sheo's direction. "What he said. Add why you're here, too."

APPEARANCE dress me up and watch me die
⇥ Catalyst is 6'2" tall; they possess a lean and muscular body, one that has a variety of old scars adorning it. One of the easiest to notice is one that stretches down their right cheek. While not a scar, one very notable marking on their chest is the "BL" brand. They have two piercings, one in their tongue and the other in the cartilage of their left ear. They typically dress in dark colors (favoring jackets with some sort of writing on the back), and their hair is black. They're not all dark, however, as they have pale blue eyes that peer out from beneath medium-sized eyebrows.
PERSONALITY if it feels good, tastes good, it must be mine
⇥ Catalyst is ambitious, with the cunning and ruthlessness to reach their goals by any means necessary. They can be brutal when they feel it is needed, however when it's not they won't bother. They tend to be rather aloof and apathetic to most things and people, with some very rare exceptions. Provided those around them don't cross a few specific lines, they're content to leave them be, though they've been known to take an interest in some people, which seldom has a positive end for whoever their interest is in. They can be manipulative, and will often encourage people to make bad decisions. Those that stick by them will be rewarded, but those that do not will be cast out, as they've been outcast for their entire life and have learned to appreciate loyalty wherever they can find it. Even during the most stressful of situations, they usually keep a firm grip on their temper and keep their calm, though when they do snap and lose their temper, it is uncontrollable. They're remarkably observant, often able to deign much from subtle clues in what people say, how they say it and how they act.
