☁  hayley was beginning to enjoy those silent moments. the filler in between the scenes of life, those moments where hope was fast asleep and no one needed anything and she could just stand in the hallway with her eyes shut, basking in the silence. leadership, as it turned out, wasn't awfully stressful, not in comparison to mothering a premature baby. hope was colicky and demanding, and truth be told she was just grateful that people seemed to like the baby enough to watch her for a few minutes while she took a break to clean or cook. funny, how mopping could feel pretty damn therapeutic.

she was enjoying one of those particular moments just then. standing in the foyer of the lodge, staring at the hissing fire, enjoying the fact that the days chores had been done and dinner was nearly finished and hope was happily napping in her crib. but those moments always came to an end, and sure enough, there were things to discuss. most people were back for dinner, but it wasn't ready to eat quite yet, which gave the perfect opportunity.

❝can everyone gather around for a meeting for a minute?❞ she called, stuffing her hands into the pockets of her jeans. as bodies began to fill in, she approached the coffee table among the sofas, a sturdy wooden thing, and hopped onto it with a swift and silent jump, turning to face everyone. ❝so, i made a few changes. make things a little simpler, more straightforward.

❝for starters, before i came here, months ago, it's to my understanding that the group lived in the village at the bottom of the mountain. most everyone has assimilated themselves here, and i'd like to make this our official base, no questions about it. we can keep everyone close by here, divide resources easily, communicate faster. visit the village at your leisure, we still have animals and crops to tend to down there, but it's more efficient to call this place home.

❝as far as ranks go, they're staying pretty general, but we're renaming them. the leader is the head; the second-in-command is the second; pretty simple. then, we've got the senate, or senators. people who've proven themselves trustworthy and invaluable, and intent on seeing to the well being of the group. below them are the representatives, for newer members, people who haven't really put down roots, or people that, be it for age or some other reason, wouldn't do well as senators. they're still to be respected, but they're not the top of the chain of command.❞

dark eyes danced about the group, never lingering too long on anyone, ensuring certain people were present but leaving no indication of who she was searching for. ❝i'm also switching around the titles. they're pretty self explanatory, like i said, i'm not here for flowery, aesthetically pleasing names, i just want efficiency. soldiers are people who've proven themselves good fighters; teachers are people who have knowledge to pass on; loyalists are people who've proven themselves loyal to the group; caretaker's spend a lot of time with the animals of the group; doctors are people who know how to heal. we've also got traders, trader with a d, who are people who go to other groups to exchange resources a lot. and then there's ambassadors, who are a part of the ambassador program, which i'll explain in a moment.❞

she ended the monologue with a long exhale, having been holding in extra air for the extra words. arms crossing in front of her, she glanced around the room, ensuring everyone had gotten a grasp on the things she'd said. ❝any questions before i continue?❞

[ tldr:
- the group is officially living in the lodge.
- the ranks have been changed, more about them can be read in the guide.
- the titles have also been changed, more about them can be read in the guide. ]

JUST STANDING WAITING FOR THE PUNCHES
Tomorrow was glad the meeting came at dinnertime; he doubted he would've been informed of such an event unless Hayley herself told him, since she seemed to be the only one of the Lodge who'd taken a liking to him. He couldn't much blame the others, though it did make his stay more nerve wracking than would be preferable; oh well, it was a temporary situation anyways and he knew the people of the Lodge knew that.

Tomorrow shuffled in, flanked by Claire and Jeremiah. The dogs were hungrily gazing at the food that some people were already picking at, though Tomorrow gave a sharp whistle to remind them to behave. A few questioning and nasty glares in his direction afterwards once again reminded him he ought to remember his manners as well; he couldn't be as loud as he was used to with his companions nowadays.

The announcements so far didn't mean much to him; he was still a newcomer, not trusted enough for a rank or title like Hayley was talking about. Tomorrow had questions, but he bit his tongue and kept them to himself, not wanting to embarrass himself even more tonight. He glanced around for a place to sit, noticing an empty spot next to Brendan; he vehemently avoided that, knowing the boy had no patience for him or his companions. Tomorrow instead took a spot at a table that was already nearly full of friends all eagerly murmuring to each other and focused on the meeting.

☁  much like she expected, no one had any comments or questions. part of her sort of wished one of them did, considering how difficult interpreting their silence was. in that moment, standing up there, she wished one of them would say something. silence was impossible to interpret, but she didn't let the nerves get to her. she just reminded herself that this, no matter how nerve wrecking it was, wasn't even the hardest thing she'd done that day; dealing with hopes wailing was. she was just happy she'd chosen a room a bit out of the way, so the sound carried very little.

❝on to actually applying these.❞ she said with an exhale, clearing her throat. ❝brendan, i'd like you to take on the title of caretaker, for your dedication to the chickens.❞ hayley loved her daughter, and the tenderness and dedication the teenager showed towards his chickens almost reminded her of her relationship with her own newborn. ❝i'd also like to offer you the position of representative. tomorrow, you're new and i know you're only staying temporarily, but if you decide to stay, with the work you've been doing, you'd have promotion opportunities in the future. consider it.❞

she wracked her brain, trying to remember if there was anything else to say. she almost called it over, but paused, clearing her throat. ❝i'm still working out the kinks, but next week we'll be discussing an ambassador program. in the meantime, i'll be going to visit the isle of silver sands to talk about our alliance, whoever wants is welcome to come with me. otherwise, meeting dismissed, dinner should be done soon.❞

she stepped off of the table with ease, hands stuffed in her pockets, gaze dancing about the room for any comments or reactions.

[tldr:
- brendan is offered the title of caretaker and the promotion of representative.
- shoutout to tomorrow for the good work.
- discussion about an ambassador program next week.
- hayley's taking a trip to the isle of silver sands to talk about their alliance, anyone's free to come.
sorry for not tagging, but it doesn't seem to want to work rn djhsakdakh]

JUST STANDING WAITING FOR THE PUNCHES
Brendan's nasty glare after his whistling well.. It was easy to see how Tomorrow crumbled under the scrutiny, and he hunched over the table and kept his eyes down. He didn't look up at Hayley continued, listening to her promote Brendan; he supposed the kid deserved it, and he certainly wasn't going to speak up against it.

Tomorrow tilted his head, surprised to hear his own name in the mix. He didn't know how long he would be staying, so it wasn't an impossibility for him to take on more responsibilities while he was here. Still, he doubted it'd be a popular decision and part of him wanted to tell Hayley to save face and just ignore him when it came to such things.

He wasn't particularly inclined to go on a diplomatic mission, so he hesitated on offering to go with her. He didn't want her to get caught in the wilderness alone, but she'd most likely be bringing guards of course so it wasn't like he was needed.

Tomorrow moved to speak up, but the words died in his throat and he quickly moved back to staring aggressively at the table. He reached down and ruffled Claire's fur, finding a small amount of comfort in the canine's presence.
