history — Isabel was born right before the apocalypse to high school sweethearts Juan Rivera and Maria Pizano who had just moved to America from Puerto Rico wiith their four-year-old son, Carlos. Isabel was born into a loving family and for the first several years of her life, things were good. Then, the Blackout happened. Her parents had never made much money and with only the rich being supplied power, like millions of others, the Rivera family was forgotten by the Government and left to fend for themselves. Isabel's childhood was stolen from her that day. Everything she did was to help her family survive.
When Isabel was eleven, the area in which she lived was overtaken by a group of vicious outlaws who called themselves 'the Militia'. Her father was forced to give three-fourths of all their belongings to this gang and that included his wife and children. In a fight to save his family, her father was shot and killed by the leader of the Militia. Carlos and Isabel were separated from their mother whom they never saw again.
Carlos, being a young man of fifteen was enlisted into training with the Militia. This vigorous training often made him sore. He would return with cuts and bruises which Isabel would tend to as he told her about his day. Sometimes, if he was feeling well enough, he would teach her what he had learned. After a few years, Carlos insisted he train Isabel more seriously and in secret. He wanted her to learn how to fight so she could protect herself if needed. Every night after dark they would sneak off into the woods with an assortment of weapons carved out of sticks. Carlos taught Isabel basic self-defense and fist-fighting before moving on to other things. He helped her develop stamina and agility, seeing as that would be her strong suit over brute strength. It was his idea to teach her how to use throwing knives and a bow to fight. He even stole some throwing knives for her and carved a bow and arrows out of wood for her to practice with.
When Isabel was twenty, Carlos brought a stranger to stay with him. His name was Jakob and he had been taken captive by the Militia when wandering too close to their camp. He had an infected cut on his arm which Carlos instructed Isabel to tend to. Jakob and Isabel formed a quick and strong bond. He called her 'Belle' which she resented him for at first before growing fond of his mischievous nature. It wasn't long before she realized she was head over heels in love with Jakob. The two talked for long hours every night about wishing they could leave the Militia and find a peaceful life somewhere together, but both knew that would never happen. And it never did.
About a year later, Carlos and Jakob were called to take care of a border skirmish with a neighboring group. In this fight, Carlos was killed and Jakob was fatally wounded. Isabel did everything she could to help him, spending hours on end with him in the infirmary, but eventually, he succumbed to his wounds. This eventually changed her entire outlook on life, making her realize that love was vulnerable to vanishing and one could not do a thing to stop it.
The next five years progressed at an agonizingly slow pace. The Militia gained a new leader, a ruthless man with bloodlust that could never be satisfied. He killed and tortured his own people and Isabel spent this time in her life trying to avoid the wrath of him. However, her beauty captured his attention and she was brought to his inner circle. Isabel was terrified, wondering if his use for her would be something... sinister, but instead of making her a servant in that regard, she was nothing more than a glorified housewife. Like other girls who had caught his interest, Isabel was forced to clean, cook, and bring him anything he wanted. However, one day she happened to drop a precious glass of wine in which his anger lashed out on her, giving her the scar on her upper lip. Knowing that if she stayed she would put herself at risk, Isabel made plans to escape the life she had grown up in.

He called her 'Belle' which she resented him for at first before growing fond of his mischievous nature. It wasn't long before she realized she was head over heels in love with Jakob. The two talked for long hours every night about wishing they could leave the Militia and find a peaceful life somewhere together, but both knew that would never happen. And it never did.
About a year later, Carlos and Jakob were called to take care of a border skirmish with a neighboring group. In this fight, Carlos was killed and Jakob was fatally wounded. Isabel did everything she could to help him, spending hours on end with him in the infirmary, but eventually, he succumbed to his wounds. This eventually changed her entire outlook on life, making her realize that love was vulnerable to vanishing and one could not do a thing to stop it.
The next five years progressed at an agonizingly slow pace. The Militia gained a new leader, a ruthless man with bloodlust that could never be satisfied. He killed and tortured his own people and Isabel spent this time in her life trying to avoid the wrath of him. However, her beauty captured his attention and she was brought to his inner circle. Isabel was terrified, wondering if his use for her would be something... sinister, but instead of making her a servant in that regard, she was nothing more than a glorified housewife. Like other girls who had caught his interest, Isabel was forced to clean, cook, and bring him anything he wanted. However, one day she happened to drop a precious glass of wine in which his anger lashed out on her, giving her the scar on her upper lip. Knowing that if she stayed she would put herself at risk, Isabel made plans to escape the life she had grown up in.
A few months later she ran, taking what little she had with her into a world unknown. And that brings us to the present. (The rest is TBD).
