clearly lost in thought, brows furrowed and eyes trained on the paper, she bit the pen cap as she reviewed the lists carefully.

"I believe it's a baby name list." Shiloh said as she strolled over, squatting right next to Brendon. "I personally like the names Xavier and Ophelia. Which are you leaning towards?"

☁  hayley's eyes shift from her list to the boy, a decade younger than her, who'd... well, he'd never approached her before. she readjusts herself in her seat, hand pressed against her stomach as she tries to get comfortable, twisting her shoulders a bit to face the two teenagers as they entered the room.

shiloh spoke before she got the chance, and hayley nodded at the girls words, offering brendan a slight smile. ❝baby names. it's only a short list right now, i'm still thinking up more.❞ she mused, tapping her pen against her lip in thought. ❝it's so hard to come up with names without knowing them, or even the gender. i don't know what they'll be like, look like — it feels impossible to put a name to them, to be honest.❞

“ THE MOST TENDER PLACE IN MY HEART ”
evan — she,her — flintlock lodge — — [url=http://]tags
evan couldn't imagine the amount of pressure that naming your child would be. perhaps that was another reason she didn't want any of her own. it was too much responsibility. besides, how could she name someone else when she didn't even like the name she had been given? evan, birb evangeline, usually just dropped the last part of the name. she liked the elegant air of it, but it didn't suit her.

"well," she began. "that just means you have a few options, you know? you can name your kid like everyone does and they'll adapt to it, or yknow you can wait. find out what they're like. go from there." the caveys had never been a conventional group of people.

☁  evan's idea was certainly a... creative one. but truth be told, as much as hayley couldn't imagine a name to give them, she still couldn't imagine not giving him or her a name. ❝i'm sure the right one will come to me when they're born.❞ she said, tapping a finger against her stomach in a small, subconscious rhythm.

( oof low muse for this one )

Shiloh nodded. "Many people know what their baby will be named once they see what they look like. However, it is something tough to do. To name a baby. Don't put too much pressure on doing it."

Tommy had been across the room, in a chair with his guitar propped up onto his lap. He had been tuning it and cleaning it up with a rag, smoothing out the scratches and smudges and dust collection that it had acquired over being stuck in a closet for so long. He looked up after Hayley had finally revealed what she had been writing down onto paper.

His speech ever so slightly muffled because of a toothpick in between his teeth, he commented, "Whateva' you do, don't name 'em Keith. Or Arnold." Naming your poor baby any lowly name like that would practically be a death sentence. Maybe they would stand some chance though, considering that there weren't any bullies in the place to speak of. He mumbled nonchalantly, "Had ta' shove an Arnold down into a dumpsta' once." He paused to remove the toothpick from his mouth, as he had grown tired of chewing on it.

☁  hayley shot hope a grateful smile for her words of encouragement, grateful for the young woman's ever-present lightness, before glancing over to tommy, cleaning his guitar and rattling off names she shouldn't pick. keith? arnold? in a million years, she wouldn't have named her child either of those. still, it always seemed like a perfectly fine time to joke with the man. ❝such wise words,❞ she mused, releasing her pen from the grip she'd held it between her teeth, ❝i can only hope my baby will be so wise. it's decided: if i have a boy, he'll be named tommy, in honor of the wise man before us all.❞

was she serious? no.

well...

maybe.

"I'm not sure that would be wise." She looked Tommy up and down, hoping that if the babyw as named after him that the baby wouldn't inherit his...speach demeanor.

☁  truth be told, hayley had never imagined her in a situation like this. pregnant, alone, and trying to figure out how to do all of this on her own. but she was, and she'd be damned if she'd roll over and quit. hayley-fucking-chase didn't need any man or woman or humanoid to help her do this. she had herself, and that was fine enough. and it wasn't as though she was entirely alone; she had the people of flintlock, who were slowly but surely moving from strangers to friends, friends to... more. family? hayley had never had a family, and she wasn't sure how to identify one, but she had to wonder if this was something close.

it was late one evening, a little after sunset, and hayley was parked on a couch. she had a quilt draped over bony shoulders, stomach prominent against her nightgown, wearing a pair of shorts beneath the shorter dress as she folded her legs beside her. in one hand she held a mug with some broth in it, sipping it as she worked. in the other hand was a pen, and resting on her lap was a notebook with two columns:
