[b]tw for death

The snow storm battered the landscape and flakes of piercing white blinded the world in grim, cruel alabaster. A wail cut through the howling wind. In the shadow of a great pine, near the edge of a frosted woodland, were two figures in the powdered ice. One, in a black jacket branded with the logo of Batman himself, sat upon her knees, kneeling over the still form of a brown haired woman that lingered unmoving in the wintry, bitter cold.

"Mommy! No, momma, please!" The younger woman, her name Emma, pressed her hands into the freezing woman's side, shaking her roughly. She had a hard time understanding that this was the end, that her mother had just perished from the frigid wind and soon she would too. She wished she had died first, but that was a cruel, thought, wasn't it? Because then her mother would be in her place, screaming and wailing and begging, pleading, for the world to spare them some amount of mercy.

The tears in her eyes froze to her cheeks as they slid across skin, and Emma bowed her head into the stiff, frozen body that laid in her shadow.

"Momma, come back, momma! I can't...I don't wanna, please, please, please." But the mother was dead, frozen to death, her flesh pale, her limbs stiff and lifeless. Emma was alone in the snow, abandoned in the fierce storm, and for the first time in years, she felt the harsh grip of hopelessness close around her heart. She threw back her head, and wailed, her body shifting in place, as she began to rock forcefully, forward and back. Forward and back. "PLEASE!" The young woman exploded, screeching, her hands rising to her head to pull at her hair as she sobbed.

Shiloh couldn't look, she didn't even know why she was out here in the snow in the first place. Somehow she knew that she had to be here, she had to see this frightening seen even though it triggered flashbacks of her own that she never wanted to deal with.

Mom, bloody and lifeless...

Dad, stabbed 3 times in the chest...

She shook away these thiughts and approavhed the woman, trying not to look at the dead body. "Please...Please stop. It doesn't do any good." She help back tears that felt like freezing cold icicles in the corners of her eyes.

GRAYSON HANSON
Sixteen & Trans Male & Residing in Flintlock Lodge
❝and ever since seventh grade i learned to fire-breathe❞
//TW for talking about death, both in response to the op and in Gray's past

Gray was someone who had encountered a great number of hardships in his life, each of them shaping him in various ways. None of them had been more impactful or traumatic than his mother's death. She'd been gone for a few days, and upon her return had hid him in her closet. Moments later two men came in demanding payment; when she couldn't give them anything, they shot her.

It still haunted him to this day. The nightmares kept him from sleeping at night, so he had to do it in the morning when the sun rose. He had nyctophobia and claustrophobia from the event, things that were only made worse when they were trapped underground for a week. There were other effects too, losing the person you loved and trusted most in the world hurt you in a number of ways, some you might not even be able to identify.

Gray had stepped out of the lodge to try and see how severe the storm was, to try and get a sense for when it would be over and when he'd be able to depart. He hadn't expected to hear a woman's agonized screams for her mother. He wasn't really dressed to be going out in the weather, but the urgency of her cries sent him out into the snow, where Shiloh was already trying to intervene.

There was an older woman, lying in the snow, a younger one clinging to her body and begging her to come back. He reached out and touched her shoulder. "It's too late!" He said it loudly, hoping to be heard over the howling wind. "Come on, you need to come inside - come on, I won't leave her out here." He could hardly look at the corpse, but he'd bring it somewhere sheltered so that there could be a proper burial, a proper good bye.

this was the tragedy of their home. plenty made it safely to the lodge, warmed by the fire and a hot cup of tea, but others weren't lucky. others lost their fight with the cold, left frozen and alone in the darkness. as hayley approached the group, she felt her face flush. what if this had been her, had been evan or shiloh or any of the strangers that were becoming friends? what if one of them had perished out there? her stomach twisted at the sight, and she shuffled closer, unzipping her own coat and shrugging it off. she stayed a few steps back, not wanting to crowd the young girl, but offering it out with one hand, the other pressing against her stomach, suddenly feeling protective over her baby at the sight of a deceased mother.

❝do you have a name, sweetheart?❞ she asked, voice loud but tone gentle, a maternal concern in her eyes as she peered at the woman, who wasn't much younger than herself. ❝i'm hayley.❞ she was sure this was overwhelming for the young woman, and she could only hope that she'd be able to cope until they could get her somewhere indoors and warm.

“ THE MOST TENDER PLACE IN MY HEART ”
evan — she,her — flintlock lodge — — [url=http://]tags
/more death tw; also slight mentions of alcoholism and mentions of suicide

evan froze at the sight of the body. the body. that used to be a human being. were they not anymore? god, she didn't want to answer that. she had faced that question so many times prior to this. never had she answered it. not once. she refused to say that death made someone not exist, but she also could not allow herself the delusion of otherwise. she could not believe that her dead lives were still here.

she hadn't gotten tk see calvin's body. he had meant well. he really had. but that hadn't been enough when he succumbed to his amber liquid time and time again. and eventually it had been the death of him. she hadn't gone to his funeral either. she had had to stay home and watch her younger siblings.

and then elizabeth. her other mother. mira and elizabeth had split up when she was very young, but that didn't mean the fingers of bitterness hadn't clawed at the family. elizabeth had remarried, a woman named thalia. and she was happy. until thalia left her. elizabeth didn't survive the year, they found her in bed with a bottle of pills.

evan had seen that body.

mira hadn't even left a body. just packed up and left in her endless search for a fix. evan didn't even have it left in her heart to be angry. mira was just as dead as the rest of them.

but that wasn't important now, she started as she cane back to the present. she couldn't bring herself to say anything, eyes distant as she stood beside Gray. she needed to go inside. she needed to stay away from this. but she couldn't just leave this woman here.
