The cold bothered her more than anything. An ice cold chill ran up her spine, penetrated her skin and lingered in her bones. She shivered under her sweater and scanned the snowy plain. "Are there any houses open, or something? I need a place to stay." she called out into the whiteness.

[ just going out on a limb and assuming she's probably not dressed for sub-zero? if not then just ignore that note ]
hayley had been new to this place not many weeks prior herself. a woman, cold and alone, looking for a place to call home. a place to settle down and raise a baby, to find a people. a people to call her own, to defend and defend her - to defend the baby. she'd been wishing more and more lately that ultrasounds were still a thing, so she'd have to stop calling the fetus within her 'it' instead of 'he' or 'she'. 'it' felt impersonal and somehow cruel, as a mother.
as she approached, hearing the young woman's call, she remembered that time, not so long ago. looking for a place to stay, a meal for two, a warm bed. she'd been raised in a cruel world, but hayley hoped that, if she showed kindness to a stranger, one day that kindness would be granted to her own child. she had to hope this cruel world would be better, with a bit or work, for the baby's sake. god, she didn't want to raise a child in a world like the one she lived in at present, so full of hatred and danger, war and anger.
"hey," she called as she approached, unzipping her outermost coat as she walked and shrugging it off, "i'm hayley. plenty of rooms and hot food at the lodge, if you're interested?" she'd offer, holding the coat out to the clearly cold young woman. sure, hayley was plenty cold, but she'd been out for ten minutes - who knew how long this woman had been outside in this weather. and still, she wore half a dozen sweaters and hoodies, plenty of layers to stay comfortable.
"follow me," she'd say, motioning in the direction she'd come from, pausing to glance at the stranger. "you got a name?"
She drew in a gasp of cold air--she couldn't believe it! People actually lived out here, in this type of freezing weather! Well, she'd have to get used to it. She would be one of them, after all. "Oh! Why thanks." She briskly nodded before slipping on the coat. "I'd love to stay here, and sure I've got a name. Shiloh. It's Shiloh. You?" She could just blame the awkward stammering on the cold, though it was far from true. She couldnt remember the last time she talked to someone, so she had no idea how to act.
//Your assumption is right !!

luckily for the brunette, the stranger seemed to be in high spirits. it was refreshing, to have a joiner that wasn't half dead on the inside or the outside; happy people didn't tend to end up out on the mountain very often. it brought a smile to hayley's own face, despite feeling the urge to vomit, but she held her food down, silently cursing the baby.
"hayley chase, it's nice to meet you. the lodge isn't far off." she told the girl over her shoulder, stuffing her hands in her pockets. "i've got some soup on the stove right now, if you're hungry? it's nothing gourmet, but i like to think i'm not an awful cook." spices were difficult to come by, but there were vegetables, meat, and broth, so it was good enough for her.
"Oh, I forgot I need to eat." She sighed. She hadnt remembered the last time she had, and sometimes doing things so trivial just escaped her. Her stomach growled, practically making her decision for her. "Well, sure, I'd love some!"
