waiting, waiting...
i fall asleep
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather for a meeting, p-please."

The call echoed out through the almost dead-silent camp, and Stonestar winced when he heard the crack in his voice at the end. He still wasn't ready for this. For Starclan's sake, he was only 20 moons old! That had been part of the reason that he had been so shocked when Fogstar had appointed him as the deputy one moon ago, when his old deputy had died in a tragic incident with some holders. Sure, he loved Thunderclan with all of his heart, but... Deputy? He had been shocked, proud, and terrified. However, he had figured everything would be fine. Fogstar would be around for many more moons, right? He would take Stone under his wing and teach him the ways of being a leader, right? Well, there had never been a chance for that. Fogstar had been hiding the fact that he was down to one life, and now he was... Gone.

It seemed that most of the clans were having a sort of changing of the guard when it came to leaders and deputies, and Stonestar couldn't help but wonder what the clans had done to incur Starclan's rage. Clearly that must be the reason they were losing so many good leaders, right?

Now, Stonestar had so much pressure and so many responsibilities on his shoulders, ones that he had never had to worry about when he had just been a simple warrior. Back then he had just had to worry about hunting and protecting Thunderclan, but now there was an entire clan for him to direct, not to mention the other clans that he now had to deal with in even closer capacities. Just the thought of it all made a shiver go down his spine, and he prayed to his ancestors that he would do a good job, and make everybody in Thunderclan proud.

Once everybody had started to gather around, Stonestar sighed and winced a bit when he saw the confusion in some of their eyes. He wasn't supposed to be here, Fogstar was. Starclan, he wished the other male could be standing in his place, but he had signed up for this when he had been appointed deputy, and had known he would have to make this announcement one day. He just hadn't thought it would be so soon. Clearing his throat, he spoke with as much firmness as he could, knowing that the members of the clan would want a strong figure at this moment, "I'm afraid that I have awful news, as you may have been able to tell by the fact that I'm even up here. Fogstar, our former fearless leader... Is dead. He lost his last life from a bitter sickness, and will be dearly missed. This means that I, Stonebelly, must step up in his place and take my position as leader. I will be traveling soon with Cactusbite to receive my nine lives, and will be taking the name of Stonestar."

Nervously swallowing, Stonestar glanced down for a moment, his heart beating so loudly he could hear it in his ears. He already missed Foggy. He couldn't do this, he couldn't do this... But he had to. He had to put on a brave front, and he had to announce his deputy. He couldn't let his clan mates see the fear in his eyes. Straightening up, he sighed and announced, "As for the deputy that I will be picking, I couldn't think of a more appropriate choice than this brave clan member, who has served Thunderclan for many moons. I say these words before Starclan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice. the new deputy of Thunderclan is Dustyflower. May you all treat her with respect." He felt sort of silly as soon as the words left his muzzle, considering Dustyflower was more than thirty moons older than him, and she should've probably been the one announcing him as the next deputy, but for some reason Fogstar had seen him more fit. He wouldn't make the same mistake of passing the female over.

( welcome everybody, to traditional thunderclan !! I was very shocked and overjoyed to be chosen to be leader, and I hope that I can do a very good job and make this a fun clan to roleplay in !! )

just like that, fogstar was gone.

there was no deathbed to wait aside, no empty consoling words for the loved ones of the ailing. no, their leader had been fit as a fiddle and spry as a fox, and dustyflower had been one of the few to watch as he had been taken from the clans to huddle amongst their starry warriors. the older warrior had been instructed to hold her tongue, and so earlier that day she had visited her old apprentice for a poppy seed and a story — she might as well ease her mind along with her tired bones.

now she dozed outside the warrior’s den, having just finished sharing tongues with a couple of the other senior warriors. the old tabby kept one eye out for stonebelly’s figure on the highrock, and she spotted him as she crunched the last morsels of a squirrel. she rolled over the tail with one white-tipped paw before pushing it away, leaving it for one of the kits to wrestle with; she reached out her paws in a stretch, trying to loosen her joints. though it was unlikely stonebelly could hear her, she rumbled an encouraging purr as she watched him stumble through the ceremonial words. she tried to catch his eye and flicked her tail in what she hoped was a comforting way. she wanted to let him know that she was here for him.

dustyflower had been alive for a leader or two, and until recently had never considered herself a candidate for leadership. with her growing age and greying muzzle, though, came a stinging reminder of her own mortality: a mortality that could only be curved by the nine lives a leader was granted. it had been just as recently that she had begun to sign up for more patrols, pushing herself harder and harder until her name was circulating among those at the top — and the second she heard stonebelly utter her name as second in command, she knew that all that hard work had paid off.

others might’ve struggled through their appointment with feigned shock, but dustyflower had dreamed of a position like this since fogstar had been a young leader. it had been a distant dream, and the loss unfortunate, but she couldn’t help but throw her head up with joy and puff her chest out with pride. “stonestar,” she addressed him, her tone humble. “these past few moons i have worked hard to make thunderclan the best it can be. under your leadership, i will do my best to advise you with what i know from leaders past — i can see an amazing future in store for us. thank you.”

[align=center][div style="width: 400px; text-align: justify; font-size: 12px; line-height: 13px;"]dogkit hadn’t known fogstar too well. he had always kept some kind of instinctive respect for him, as for all of his authorities, but other than that he didn’t interact with the leader. the child wants to mourn honestly and let his heart weep for this almost-stranger, but he can’t lie to himself. so he sits at the entrance of the nursery, brown-tinted optics cast towards the meeting. his dreams and sometimes even reality were filled with death and the dead, and even for a kit so young, it doesn’t bother him.

as stonestar announces dustyflower as the new deputy, dog’s croaky, proud voice is lost in the uproar of congratulations. he doesn’t care if his chanting isn’t heard in the collective shouting, all that matters was the road ahead for thunderclan. a new leader and deputy meant a new start, and he wasn’t ready for it. but he guesses he has to be.

[align=center][align=center][div style="0px; width:450px; height:auto; text-align: justify; font-size: 9pt; line-height:13px;"]"Dustyflower! Dustyflower!" Panthercry chanted, a twinge in her heart for the new leader. Being tossed into a new world, where Stonestar would now have to lead the clan. Her dark eyes looked affectionately at her clan, and the black warrior settled back comfortably, watching the rest of the group.

This would be a new start for the clan, a good start. ThunderClan was powerful, and Dustyflower was a good choice for deputy. Now, it was just down to getting nine lives.. but it would be fine. Everything would be fine, and Panthercry knew that she'd be willing to help with anything. This clan would survive the sudden death of Fogstar, and they would flourish.

How is it that I've fallen in love with you? How can it hurt this much? Never before have I ever wanted someone this much. If I say I miss you about a thousand times, will it reach you? If I try crying and fussing, will you know my feelings?
