pyrokinesis; it has never been salem addams’ strength. the ability dances in the shadows, taunting the young witch, always just out of her control. she had been in the process of learning when they moved to california and her remaining family ceased to act like witches. salem could not give up her heritage though, continuing to practice on her powers, most notably pyrokinesis.
she goes down to the industrial area, where many building sit vacant, long ago abandoned and left to the elements; and people like salem. she’s only been a couple of times and has barely made much progress. only a few sparks, unless she’s angry.
salem’s still unsure of how to actually do it, never getting that far into her training before the move. she believes it’ll come naturally, how could it not if she continues trying?
she looks into a few buildings, walking through some as well, deciding on one that has some trash left behind by people who previously squared there, thinking that it may help; maybe she had to try and make something spontaneously combust.
staring and thinking about fire, doesn’t work. using her hands, doesn’t work. spells, she doesn’t know if they’re the right spells, don’t work. she runs through the ideas time after time, only getting a couple sparks. her patience fizzles out, leaving salem frustrated. she feels her anger spreading as if it is a fire within her. her head snaps to look at the pile of things she was trying to have function as kindling. instantly the pile erupts into brilliant flames, fueled by the anger that now has abandoned salem’s body. she’s frozen, watching in awe as the flames dance and climb and grow...
the the realization hits her, the flames are out of control. the heat is nearly unbearable and the flames jump to the walls which then go up in flames. salem watches what she’s done in horror, still somewhat frozen and panicking.
blake smoke fills the empty building, rolling out of broken windows and engulfing salem, sending her into a coughing fit. she stumbles for the door, unable to see much.
the doorknob burns her hand, causing the girl to yell in pain then inhale some of the smoke. she dives out of the building, pulling herself, coughing and bleeding, away from the building.
when the witch is far enough away, she stares at the building as it goes up into flames because of her.

when the car flipped, it seemed to be in slow motion. she’ll never forget the sound of crushing metal when the car landed back on the ground. then it was all still and quiet. willa didn’t process the crash, they were driving at one moment, the next she was hanging from her seatbelt.

she couldn’t see her brother, but he had to be okay, that was her big brother. ”james,” she coughed, reaching up to feel her forehead. she brought her hand back down to look at it, blood covered her fingers. she felt relatively okay, though. but her brother never responded.

a face appeared in the small window where she could still see out of the car, “we’re going to get you out of there, okay?” he said, willa nodded, ”my brother’s in here too, he was driving,” she managed. the man stopped a sigh, “okay,” he said after some hesitation.

they pulled the young girl out of the wreckage some time later, she had some scratches and her legs were in pain, but otherwise okay. she looked around, not seeing any familiar faces. ”where is he?” she asked, a bit frantic and going around the car. someone tried to stop her, “um you don’t want to go over there,” they warned, but willa shook her head, ”where’s my brother?” she asked more intently this time and pushing past the woman.

blood had pooled on the cement, they had just pulled james’ body out of the car. willa barely recognized her brother. her face dropped and she let out a scream. ”no, no, no, no,” she cried, covering her face.

she didn’t know he was drunk.
