you're cold against the skin

male ⋯ riverclan

[justify][gfont=mukta]a norwegian forest cat, essentially any normal dark grey tabby with white about the scruff, over his face and painting his paws, wide pink eyes with red lining the rims, tiny against the world but tougher than bricks and cute enough to want to drive your fist into an apartment building. no known relatives (because he's told none) and bearing a tendency to linger about the edges to drink it all in, nonspeaking, offering only coy smiles and on occasion the loud, jubilant laugh. his voice is as fragile and soft as he looks, to make it harder for you to hear what he wouldn't want you to. but nothing escapes him.

[sup]♥ ― people call you FAIRYPAW. that's what you ask them to, anyway. even only FAIRY will do.

you are physically ABOUT 8 and mentally ABOUT 83. in reality - well, you'll let people FIND OUT FOR THEMSELVES. you're NOT ACTUALLY 8 THO. you were born MARCH 26TH and an ARIES with ANTI-ARIES tendencies because no self-respecting fairypaw will ever abandon rational thinking and planning. you are biologically MALE and identify using HE/HIS, and consider yourself to be GRAYSEXUAL and DEMIROMANTIC.

write a paragraph about your looks here, and bold anything that seems IMPORTANT.

hmm, a line or two there about your BODY. how do you carry yourself? TALL AND CONFIDENT? or are you SHORT AND SHY? put that here!

you don't know if what you are is truthfully considered CALM AND COLLECTED, but you're a good scale higher most of those you know so at least you can be considered the metaphorical DESIGNATED DRIVER. less the voice of reason, but the STEADY SHOULDER, even if many would have to stoop to reach it. of your family, you've always played the role of the FILIAL SON and it's been a habit difficult to shed; it makes you ANTSY not being able to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for your actions, or being able to stop others from making a mess. you're DISCIPLINED TO EXCESS, a remnant from your taciturn but quiet upbringing, and it means that instead of voicing complaints you attempt to HANDLE THINGS YOURSELF QUIETLY. it's easy for you to be SWEET, LIGHT-VOICED and EARNEST, but you do have a MEAN STREAK, one that shows when you laugh scrunch-eyed at someone falling backwards in their chair or stumbling a few times when asking you a question. you like having that effect. on the other hand you can't handle ABRUPT ENCOUNTERS, and introducing yourself gives you COLD SWEATS, but you do your best regardless - that's what your parents would have urged you to do. it can still be hard SPEAKING UP in front of others.

how about some HOBBIES or something else that is rather SIGNIFICANT to your character.

the rest can be HISTORY, or something else.

Hi there. We're just gonna ask you a few questions, okay? What's your name?
Fairylights.

Alright. Fairylights. Are you happy with your life?
I think it's okay. It's, it's okay.

It's okay, great. Well then, you ever feel so dissatisfied you just want to claw your way out of your own skin and make a home for yourself somewhere by the bottom of the ocean?
Uh.

Just me then, okay. Tell me about yourself, take it easy.
Um, I don't think there's much to say. I'm twenty-seven. I work out. Um.... I actually really do much. [shaky laughter.] There's not a lot I can say. I'm just like any other person. I like... um... soccer. Oh, and reading children's books. I don't know. I think they teach you a lot. Right? [Mmm.] Like, like... the one with the Caterpillar. It's like - hold yourself in check, or, I don't know, you'll end up doing a lot of damage. That you'll have to fix. Which can be hard. [Ah, right.] I mean -- you have to make sure you have everything handled, somehow. You really have to... have to just keep a firm hold on everything, all at once.

All at once.
Yes. [scratching his neck.]

So, you go out often? Play... soccer, was it?
Well, I mean. Not anymore. As much. There's no time, you know? Like... ah... yeah. No time.

You need a few tissues there, champ?
No. No. It's alright. Thank you.

You're sweating a little bit...
No. It's okay.

Any more hobbies, then? Or are those all you can think of at the moment?
I'm not... really sure. I don't know. It's not that having hobbies is really... it's not that we all have to have hobbies, right? I mean, actually... I don't know. Sometimes I find myself blanking out a lot, at home, just looking at the wall. Sometimes I'm like that and I think, what, there's really... there's really nothing else I would rather be doing. Not that I like looking at the wall. But it's like, it's... you know. You realise you're so tired. I mean. [forced laughter.] I'm trying to pick up pool.

Oh, really?
Yes. With a few friends. Younger than me. They're cute. So energetic, you know? They always make me laugh. Such brats. They've been playing longer than I have so they keep flooring me but I'm getting better, just wait--

That's good. Your friends are important to you?
Yes.

...
Oh. Sorry. Yes. They are. Sometimes they make fun of me - like, my name right? They'll shorten it a bit and play with it, and act all like... But I think they're good. We drink sometimes. They really can't hold their weight. We all just keep drinking, some slowly, some of them really fast - I'm one of the slow ones, but steady, you know - and... they'll collapse over everything, and laugh really loudly, and we'll play some karaoke and just chill and it's really cool, you know? Sorry, can I have a - [wipes off palms with a tissue.] They're good kids. I'm, I'm happy to know them. Some of them are really tall. Like, so tall they'll just duck under doorways and like, you really have to lean back to look at them, and sometimes when I do that it feels like the world is falling and it's like yeah.

They do sound like awesome people to know. Can you tell me a few names, then?
Oh. I can't. Sorry.

Then, can you describe some of them in particular?
Ah, okay. Okay. [meticulously folding the tissue into littler squares.] Well, there's one. He's the one that comes to mind first, to be honest. So... so... big. Not big, that's the wrong word. So - you know? Everywhere. His voice is so loud, and he's always so bright. Not bright, either. Umm. His laugh is loud, too. Everything about him is loud, you can't escape, and he's... he's a good kid. Sometimes you need to pinch the back of his neck to calm him down, but that's alright. [Oh, I see.] Then there's one that's like... the opposite. Kind of like me. We're, you know. We look out for each other. I think. Then - [laughs.] Really, we call each other brothers, the four of us, kind of - I mean we all do - but us four, it's especially that. I'm the eldest. I watch out for all of them. They're all so vibrant.

And you?
And me? I don't know. Maybe. I don't mind it.

Who are you, with them?
Probably just the same person. Just watching. Someone needs to. To make sure they don't... actually, I don't know if I would stop them. I don't want to be the one that's always pulling them back or anything. I don't know.

Don't sweat it, buddy. Don't we always feel like a waste of space and that no one's really paying attention to us when we breathe but it's all okay anyway?
Um.

Don't we always feel like we're dragging others down, that they'd be so happy without us? Don't we sometimes feel like we shouldn't even be there?
...

Tell me more about yourself, buddy. Do you like baking?
No. I don't know how to cook.

NO FURTHER COMMENTARY DESIRED.

tension ,
No one's got their head on right better than he does. It's not a skill in itself, but it's an example of his soul; it's an exemplar student from the graduating class of his heart, parting from the cluster of secrets he keeps close to the closing door of his psyche and a demonstration of everything accumulating, ultimately, to what's known about him. He doesn't mind it, exactly, that classification - at least it's something, and it's something that's purely him, more than what he could say about anything else. They called him bread fairy, do you believe it? A bread fairy. And he likes it. But they don't call him that anymore, and that wasn't him at all - it was eating, nibbling, blowing up his cheeks with chewing in progress and the camera caught it, and he's almost ashamed of it. Nothing happened. It was nothing. He doesn't particularly feel connected to anything he hasn't done himself when it's attributed to him - it's embarrassment, almost a source of shame, and it's a nice limelight but it hurts his eyes and yes, he does prefer that people think of him as someone orderly, anal retentive, careful and meticulous and he means, it's him, at least. What you say and do is leagues different from who you could be squirrelling in. No one really knew. And, when the him that was busily taking chunks out of mocha bread had blown up, was it really him? He thinks it wasn't. He doesn't know, really. He's thought a lot about these types of things - fame, his role, his fame. It's hard to swallow. Mocha bread, too, is hard to swallow these days - he can't buy it anymore without that shrinking reminder that it's bigger than he is. But it's not that he minds, particularly, because it is tasty. Just - he likes certainty, understanding exactly what boundaries are where. It's why he does so many things himself. It's like he's the Pied Piper of responsibilities. Kind of. It's just a preference to know where he stands.
11. male. smiley. ready for speaking.
tap tap.
energy levels high.
ah, yeah yeah. is this thing on? HEY MOMMMM.
oh, fairfair?
a pause.
yeah, of course. we're friends! he really dislikes it when i play around with him - tell him a few jokes, tug his pigtails, you know - so i do it more.
laughter.
please don't touch that.
whoops. sorry! i'm not very good at listening. i won't do it next time, okay? ... yeah, that's the kind of thing riri hates. ahaha. i don't mean anything bad by it. i think he knows that. it's like, i get him to smile, you know? oh, crap!
a smash.
...
um, i'll pay for that. hehe. anyway, let's start for real!
drumming fingers.
oh, man, when did we meet. i remember i didn't want anyone to feel awkward with each other, and it's like, we're going to have to get used to each other eventually, you know, so i think - yep, i definitely introduced myself first. i thought he was younger than me! i looked down and i was just like, oh hey, i use the same shower gel. then he kicked me out. then when we were outside maybe ten minutes later or so he just kind of smiled a bit (a little one, a bit tired) and asked me if i was crazy, and i went, nooope, i just wanted us to meet. i did that to everyone. i think he knew what i was trying to do, at least, and he - appreciated it, maybe? aha.
first impressions?
him to me: probably something along the lines of, wow, damn, what's shakin', bacon?
i'm just kidding. eheh. it was a bit awkward at first, still, but really, i think we bonded over that. and more, ever since then, because i'm so cute. i think he figured at that moment... that i'm just a kid he really can't escape from. you just know that type. they wanna join in, but they can't figure out the right timing to. he's that person. and i'm the one that puts on little floaties for him and tugs him out with me into the wide open sea of sunshine.
me to him: can he even see under those bangs?
or, no. it was something like... i wonder what he can do.
how close are you?
oh, so close. you know we go to the gym together? everyone tells him that he shouldn't lose weight, but he insists. or, he dodges around it, says a little thing like yeah, okay, and laughs a bit, then he's at the treadmill next second - we're both trying to gain a bit of muscle. i like touching his pecs. they're so alive. and his abs. oh, sorry.
humming.
i think fairy just needs a lot of confidence. yeah. confidence. and to break out of his shell a bit more. but, then, you know, in comparison to what it used to be before... i guess you could say it's already been a lot?
like. i'm sure he knows that everyone's here for him. but then it's also like, why should i depend on that bunch of rugrats, they're depending on me.
agree?
nopppee. popping that syllable. or, actually... maybe? i don't know. i'm not actually that worried about fifi. he knows what he's doing. he's ancient, right? baby-faced, but he's okay, i'm pretty sure. i don't think he's someone that gets hurt that easily. but still. would be nice to know what he's thinking.
a pause.
oh, just in my opinion, though.
it's always like, he watches, we do cr-- [sub]whoops, not family friendly.[/sub] -- stuff. there's another one in our group, briar, who's also like that, but i think there's something fairy worries about a lot. like... you know, not standing out?
and i always tell him, that's not true, duh. of course you do. you're that cutie in the corner. oh, toothpaste-nim. right? it's just something he fixates a lot. holding himself back. i dunno. overthinking. i'm trying to ease him out of it.
energy levels stabilising.
ah, i don't think he's said much about his family. i dunno why. he just doesn't want any of us to bother his little sister. pout. i really don't know why, we'll be on our best behaviour! but okay. umm. i met his parents once. they were really quiet, but they made like... a ton of food for us to eat. man! that was good. and fairy even set the table and cleaned around. okay, that part isn't surprising. what? why? oh, he always does that. the stuff you expect done but never actually do; he's always just finishing it up, neatly, putting everything back into order and stuff, and it's pretty nice. you really can depend on him.
still don't know why we can't meet his little sister though. even just to say hi. come on! we're your friends, bud.
itching at his nose.
anything else to know about him? ummm... oh, yeah! one thing. don't touch his stuff. he'll really bite you. for real! it hurts!
crackle.
OH WHOOPS
thud
end.
