I'm not using this currently lmao just as something from my character's past. Outside of this universe, he's always had a moderate fear of electricity and I'd like to carry that over if it's a reasonable thing. So just. The thing is if it's a gas powered generator, gasoline doesn't last much longer than two years even in the tanks at gas stations. If a generator uses gasoline, like, the refined stuff we use in most cars, then any gasoline would be long gone just because it goes bad after a couple years at most.
Looking it up--diesel fuel also doesn't last long. So it would depend on how your generator runs, and so if it's in your characters past, it is certainly a possibility! but it'd be a while ago because of the short lifespan of most fuels.

It wouldn't have ran on gasoline, since yeah it does have a very short shelf life. It would have either been solar or hydraulic, at least from my research into the matter so far lmao I do a lot of research. Since in his backstory it's a relatively powerful group doing what happened, those would make sense. I've read + heard from mechanically experienced family members that diesel fuel can last up to five years without a stabilizer and about ten years with, and that might have worked as well, possibly? ORRR propane, since there's plenty of that lying around, and as far as I can tell there's no risk of expiration.

yeah see our main goal here is realism; so if its not running on gasoline thats somehow perfectly Fine after 20 years or whatnot, thats fine
and my thing up there abt diesel was p much just what i found when i was looking up generators and their fuel and how long said fuel lasted in storage but if you have it from people who know what they're talking about that it can last a long time then! that works too
