eyes scanned over the shelves with an absent gaze, watching as a few people dug around the broken-down pharmacy for all the medical supplies they could get. even while jackson’s presence around northstar district was something he had clearly stated would only be temporary, he figured making himself useful wouldn’t inconvenience him too much. besides, maybe this little scavenging trip with the northerners could benefit him just as much. medical supplies were a rather rare commodity nowadays, after all.

jp stepped closer to an open shelf, looking through the supplies. “so those people took your medical supplies?” he didn’t sound very “sympathetic” or upset about a rather upsetting event. picking up a box of bandages from the shelf, he shook it up feeling how light it was. he tried not to sneer. empty. “at this rate you’d have better luck stealing the supplies back. this place is a bust.”

// just a thread of a group of northerners looking for medical supplies at a nearby city i think ? ?
feel free to have your character be part of the group. or even find something useful!

Sitting in the clinic after hours whilst he waited for Mickey to finish with his work, eyes would shift across empty shelves and barren side tables as the gravity of the situation really began to sink in. How was Mickey supposed to help people if Green was unable to provide him with the resources to do so? Green should have done more to protect the city.

But, he’d work extra hard to try his best to gather whatever he could to make up for the drastic loss. On a scavenging trip with a couple Northerners, Green scratched through empty drawers of a rundown pharmacy to reveal that finding medical resources would be near impossible. Green barely knew what this shop was called, staring long and hard at the name before turning his head to look towards JP at his comment.

❝ If… If this medicine shop doesn’t have anything, maybe a hospital will have stuff. ❞ He pointed out before hopping over the counter to search for supplies in the back room. He didn’t want to entertain the thought of attempting to steal resources back from The Badlands — that was an absolute death wish, but Green was beginning to become well aware that maybe it was his only option. He tried one of the doors in the back, rusted handle rattling as Green tried working it, but this was definitely locked. Maybe that was a good sign; a sign that no one had tried getting into this room as of yet.

❝ Uh, ❞ Wide eyes blinked over towards the others as he darted his gaze between them. ❝ Anyone know how to pick locks? ❞ This was getting exciting. Perhaps this would be where they’d find the resources they needed. Heartbeat picked up with anticipation; if he could provide for the clinic, this would be a miracle.

this was one of the many reasons jp preferred being in a group of one. it was just him looking out for himself. he didn’t have to give a damn about making sure others were safe; he didn’t have to spread himself thin in order to watch other peoples’ backs. if someone wronged him, he didn’t have to think about how it would affect the rest of the group. it was easy to gather enough resources for one person to get by. life was unfair; he just got over it and went on with his life. no setback affected him much. the way other people relied so heavily on one person to carry so much weight repulsed him.

besides, why would so many people look towards green when things went awry, as if he was some messiah? the hell did they expect him to do?

”uh. anyone know how to pick locks?” the guy couldn’t even pick a lock, yet people fiercely depended on him. jp turned his head and looked at the door. looked promising. if there was a locked door, chances were that no one had managed to get whatever was on the other side. they just needed someone to pick the lock. jp swiveled his gaze around as everyone else hesitated, not speaking up, some shaking their heads. an npc paused, plucked a bobby pin from her hair, and held it out for someone to take. “would this work? guys?” he tried not to sneer. jesus christ. these people were so vanilla that it physically pained him at times. did he have to do everything around here? stepping forward, plucking the pin from the npc’s hand, he slid over the counter and made his way towards the door.

messing with the lock, it took a few moments of concentration before, finally, the door opened. sparing a glance green’s way, he pushed the door open to peer inside. the sight that greeted them was enough for his shoulders to slump, sighing. great.

After all, he tried so hard to help others because he barely knew how to help himself. This was gratifying in his own way. But then again, these people were alive because of him — not that he would ever admit such a thing, though — and so saving all but himself was a feat that he’d feel pride over. But, ever since the raid, it was slowly dawning on him that maybe he couldn’t always save the day. How could he look out for everyone when he couldn’t even provide the supplies needed to do so?

He was hopeful when he rattled the locked door, soon stepping back as JP offered to pick the lock. Tooth hooking on his bottom lip, he watched JP mess with the lock until a clicking sound ignited a feeling of anticipation. Was this the miracle that he’d been so desperately looking for? He stepped closer as the door creaked open, the light in his eyes wavering once he saw what they’d opened up. A damp bathroom, mould and dirt creeping into the sink and the toilet seat cracked from years of neglect. No supplies. He swallowed hard, slowly turning to glance at JP before looking back into the bathroom. ❝ It’s okay, ❞ He tried to justify feebly, the hint of optimism in his voice straining as he so desperately tried to see the bright side. ❝ There’ll be something elsewhere, I’m sure of it. ❞

He couldn’t come back empty handed. The very last thing he’d want to do is to let Mickey down.
