tw. brief mention of gore
It didn't take long for Freddie to get snarky with Eddie. But, what was he expecting from his cousin after all? He was always the type to nip at him
again and
again, expecting to get a reaction out of it. It took a lot more than biting comments to arouse Eddie's anger, though. Instead, his brows knitted together for a split second before he flitted his gaze to look over to Freddie. He didn't have to explain himself for Freddie to realize Eddie's motives here. Of course he was double checking the traps - he couldn't trust Freddie to get the job done.
Subconsciously, Ed used the side of his shoe to wipe away some of the footprints in the snow before he began to follow nearby Fred, hands shoved into his pockets.
❝ Depends on if my schedule's busy. ❞ Eddie replied stoically, words dripping in sarcasm as he slowly caught up to his cousin.
Freddie found amusement in Eddie's next words, the genuine mercy that he had for the feral creatures. He wasn't going to deny the way he felt about the matter. With his ever-so-cynical mind, Eddie believed that the wolves deserved a swift death. People, on the other hand, meant very little to him. After all, killing a man who'd harmed another for revenge or blind rage or for material gain felt more like justice than anything. Human beings had malicious minds - if Eddie was killed, he'd probably deserve a horrendously long and drawn out death.
The wolves on the other hand... they killed for survival. Cultivation of the world around them. They deserved better than a slow and agonizing death. They were ferocious beasts and yet they were never wicked in their ways; it was a quality that Eddie had grown to quite respect. Eddie rolled his eyes at being called
cute. If laughing at Ed was what'd help Freddie sleep at night, then he wasn't going to stop him. But, he did choose to huff a short breath of laughter at Freddie's comment, choosing to stay silent otherwise.
After all, he preferred for people to fall for what Freddie had fallen for. People could believe that Eddie had become soft, a family man and a man who would respect the world around him, but he was born a Stirling; he'd not even bat an eyelid when severing a person's cervical artery if the opportunity arose. And, honestly, as Ed silently walked beside his cousin, he found that Freddie would be good proof of that very fact if it wasn't for the fact that he needed his family alive and breathing. Dammit, Freddie.
