personality - when people say opposites attract, they definitely mean it.  amalia always tries to approach a situation with a level head and not let her emotions cloud her judgement.  she finds being rational often leads to the best outcome, however, this can lead her to overthink things and spiral out of control, leaving no decision made.  along with this, she panics when she's in a situation she can't control.  this possibly how amalia and roisin's relationship worked out initially, with amalia getting roisin to think through her decisions and roisin amalia to take more risks.  still, to an outsider her analytical behavior could make her perceived as rude or even apathetic.  this is not entirely true, however, as deep down she is a very caring person, especially towards those she is close to.  amalia isn't the greatest at showing she cares, but on the rare occasion she allows herself to be vulnerable, a warm, gentle person is revealed.

headcanons 

• amalia truly did love him when he was born but the stress of their situation, combined with the parents' age made it hard.  after they left him, she was heartbroken and wanted to bring him back, but knew it was to late.  to this day it is one of her biggest regrets.  needless to say, this did not help with her nature of stressing and overthinking about decisions.
  
• in combination with roisin's carefree spirit, amalia fighting with her ended their relationship.  besides blaming herself, she remains bitter towards roisin for leaving her and abandoning their son.
  
• amalia will probably come across as distant and even cold to anluan, but that is because she knows he probably won't be too happy to see her and wants to give him some space and let him approach her.
  
• she understands spanish from being around roisin.  whether or not she actively speaks spanish, i'm not sure yet.
  
• might have a nickname for anluan from when he was a kid.
