"speech" 'thought' text A slender figure climbed the mountain getting closer and closer to the village. She had been gone for about three months now, but in those three months much had happened. Her beautiful long hair had been shorn much shorter, barely passing her chin now. Brown eyes sparked with something that hadn't been in the gentle young woman's eyes ever before. Along with her medicine bag, a small pistol had a prominent place on her hip. To those who were new to Flintlock she might be an unexpected sight, though, to those who had been there when Maisie had lived in the village would have been more surprised. Covering her glossy hair was a tight knit cap, she wore a thick scarf, a long black coat, and high lacing black boots. More black than she was want to wear in older days. Her warm breath was visible as she exhaled, she was curious why someone hadn't halted her approach, perhaps they recognized her? After all, how much could she really have changed? As she neared the village she let out a sigh of relief, it was all still there, her cottage and everything, though it probably had more cobwebs and dust than any house ever should... that was, if someone hadn't taken up residence inside of it. She hoped not. Well, might as well go to her house, if someone tried to stop her she'd explain that she was a doctor here... and if they didn't, well, perhaps they had never noticed that she'd left. In which case she'd be a touch disappointed but honestly understand. What had happened to her, and was she yet another victim of a senseless killing? Sure, it seemed that she’d left on her own accord, but Eddie would never be able to find out if she ever intended on returning. Too many of her belongings still remained in her quaint home — her disappearance was not intentional on her part. But, three months later, Eddie was standing in the village, smoking a cigarette, when he spotted the vaguely familiar silhouette of the medic. Was that Maisie, or was he just seeing things? Her hair was chopped far shorter and there was an apparent change in her usual style. Whilst her face was the same as how he remembered it, the expression was off. As if the once continuous light behind her eyes had since flickered. He stubbed his cigarette out before walking over to catch her before she reached her home. ❝ Maisie. ❞ He greeted as he approached, brows knitted together firmly before he halted in one place. Eyes flitted across her features and, whilst his expression didn’t give it away, his words certainly revealed the worry he had been feeling. ❝ Where have you been all this time? Are you okay? ❞ |
