Staff Discussion Updates & Member Input - dame - 07-27-2020

[div style="width: 450px; margin: auto; text-align: justify"]What's up guys gals and nonbinary pals, welcome to our new staff discussion update thread! We wanted to peel back the curtain a little bit and give you guys an idea of what's going on behind the curtain, and also get feedback from you guys about potential changes. Be it new plots we're coming up with, events, rule or game changes, questions you guys asked us, etc! Not every single thing will go here (like rule enforcement, for example), nor will details of our discussions, but the big stuff y'all should know about? Yes. If y'all feel strongly about liking or disliking something we're discussing, please voice it in this thread (or, if you'd like a bit more privacy, my dms are always open, as are the other staffers). We want to hear from you and make changes that excite you.

Speaking of changes, staff have been discussing two major things that would alter TNW in big ways!

-- Firstly, allowing steam power in the game. Right now we're leaning towards allowing it, and are discussing how to implement it in a way that keeps things somewhat restricted, while still allowing them to be in the game. This discussion came up after a question asked by Truce regarding if it would be possible.

-- Secondly, a new group with a new biome and plot with a new creature.

We have other ongoing discussions atm that we'll touch on later, but those are the ones we're most interested in getting feedback on.

I really feel like I shouldn't have an opinion yet, as I am still new here. However, I'm very interested in this Steam power implementation. I think that is so cool, and can't wait to see how it's executed in the world!

-- A new group would be awesome tbh. More options, more interaction, and perhaps more big plots (group-wide) ?

Huge track <3

[align=center][div style="width: 400px; text-align: justify; line-height: 15px;"][font=calibri]This all sounds great!!

The steam-powered concept would be interesting and would spice up TNW for sure. The post-apocalyptic/no electricity idea was great to explore when TNW first started, but now it's time to evolve the game and step it up to a new level.

As for the new group, I'm a little iffy as well! It would be disappointing if this new group fell flat on its face like many others have in the past. I'm assuming there would be heavy staff involvement to ensure activity?

However, while it would be nice to focus on the groups we already have, I'm not too sure how much staff can help their activity. A game-wide plot might help existing group activity, or it might not. In my opinion, a group's activity really depends on the motivation of the leaders and the involvement from the community (and in terms of community, they are really spread thin from group to group).

I know that personally for me, while I have a long-running attachment to some of the TNW groups, I wouldn't oppose a new group coming in as long as it's well thought out and has a plan. As long as it brings something new to the table. I think that could really spice things up! I know that all of the groups have unique traditions and themes, but considering I've been around for a while now, I'm not drawn to or interested in joining most of them to be totally honest. The site activity is probably to be blamed for most of my lack of interest, so it's not really anyone's fault, but low activity = no posting, no events, and nothing to draw anyone in.

So, it's really either attempt to revive the existing groups somehow or bring a new and interesting group that will contribute to the game and the evolution of its plot. I wouldn't oppose to either, but I think that making the new group is worth a shot!

I didn't mean to ramble for this long I swear

helloo!! here to lurk n things BUT!
i think i agree with hoot and work on reviving our current groups? at least the long standing ones, ie flintlock, badlands, and northstar. then once those are consistent, implement another? because there are already a lot in the backboards and things.
i love the steam power idea tho!

Re: Staff Discussion Updates & Member Input - Noccy - 07-29-2020

It's sorta dead right now and sadly, I don't know if either of those ideas will revive at all.

While I personally think a new group could help, I think we first need to get activity back up in all the groups somehow, whether that means like...changes or smthn? idk man it's late I'm sunburnt I'm trying

the steam power thing would be cool, or like water power for those close enough to utilize it?

[div style="width: 450px; margin: auto; text-align: justify"]Okay guys, there's quite a few things to go over here, so let's get right into it.

First off, small announcement about the staff team. Crows and Wysteria are stepping away for a little bit to focus on their real lives, but they'll be back soon enough! For the time being, however, the behind the scenes staff discussions will not be able to progress as much as usual, even at the slowed-down rate. We won't stop completely, don't worry, but it'll be a week or two before we can unveil anything that wasn't just about ready to go before tonight.

That's the behind the scenes discussions though! We're going to be sure to keep the discussion going here as much as we can, so that when it comes time to draft what the rules, regulations and requirements for steam power, we already know what you guys do and do not want to see.

Which brings me to steam power! We love seeing your enthusiasm about steam power! Getting this implemented has proven to be a challenge, since there's a lot to consider. Infrastructure that hasn't been maintained, the actual machinery itself, coal, etc. So what we've been trying to do is find a balance between all of those things that doesn't completely prohibit it. Such considerations have included members being able to buy temporary structures for bones and having permanent ones be a reward for donating, though these are just ideas, nothing set in stone.

We hear you loud and clear about prioritizing the revitalization of TNW's core groups over just adding a new one. The new group and plot isn't totally off the table and if you guys have interest in seeing more of it (even just more information on it) that's great, but it'll be on the backburner for the time being in favor of more pressing issues and exciting developments.

I'd also like to amend a grave oversight on my part. When I started planning this thread over a week ago, I had every intention of giving Truce the full and proper credit she deserves for the steam power idea. Without her we would not be having this discussion, and I'm disappointed in myself that when I actually drafted the thread for the first time, it slipped my mind. I'm even more disappointed that I didn't remember between drafting and posting. My apologies to Truce and anyone else that found her lack of credit dishonorable, a slight, or an intentional attempt at stealing her idea. This will not happen again.

Lastly, we've got an anonymous survey that we'd invite anyone and everyone to take. It's a bit long, but we've got a lot we want your feedback on.
