It’d been a few weeks since Alfonso’s partner had disappeared without any trace, leaving Alfie emotionally wrecked and Eddie’s own stress levels skyrocketing. Her sudden disappearance left the group with an uneasiness, a near mass panic at how Aiden was here one minute and gone the next. The fear that left other Flintlocker's vulnerable to the same fate.
No one had seen where she’d gone. No one had found any traces of her leaving. There were no motivations which could lead her to leave Flintlock all together, especially with no supplies apart from a borrowed rifle. Eddie was suspicious and, most importantly, concerned. Something wasn’t right about her disappearance as nothing added up, and he couldn’t help but believe that on this walk they were looking for a body rather than a person.
Alfie maintained the belief that she still could be out there, safe and alive, but Ed refused to give him even the slightest glimmer of hope. Perhaps they’d never find her - Eddie could never be too sure - but he wouldn’t rest until he could give his brother some closure. ❝ I want any traces of another human being to be reported back to me, all right? ❞ He pointed out to the group before slowing to a stop. ❝ So this is the whereabouts of where she was last seen, right? ❞

— fred was slow to understand anyone’s dread over the sudden disappearance. people came and went all of the time; what made this person’s leaving that much more significant? granted, from rumors around flintlock, it seemed that there was reason for there to be concern. last time someone disappeared without a trace, apparently the reasoning behind it was just as sinister as one would come to believe. something similar had happened like this in flintlock’s past; they were terrified of the idea of history being repeated yet again while they stood by and did nothing about it.
while fred still failed to be worried about it, he still made the effort to go off with the rest of the search party, eyes wandering around the woods absently. he glanced towards eddie as he commanded people about, trying to make this search party as efficient as possible. eyes wandered towards others in the group, at their solemn expressions and hopeful outlooks on the situation. these people genuinely believed they might find her; freddie was less optimistic.
however, there was still a bit of a determination for him to find any sign of her last whereabouts. granted, it wasn’t particularly to find her - but more so the sort of recognition he could get from such evidence. fred loved to be praised and adored, even if his reasoning - and his heart - never seemed to be in the right place.
as people nodded in response to where they had last seen her, fred cleared his throat before stepping off to one side. “alright,” he started, clasping his hands briefly together. “i’ll take three other people with me. we’ll look around this way.” gesturing towards the wooded area behind him, he looking around at the others. “who’s coming with?” as confident as he seemed, he could probably do with people that were a bit more serious about the situation as a whole.

[align=center][div style="width: 400px; text-align: justify; font-size: 12px; font-family: calibri; letter-spacing: .6px; color: #494949;"]” i’ve been sick a few times today, i don’t know if i should- “ but the blonde is cut off by someone insisting she join the search party. her jaw clenches, nose scrunched, if she doesn’t go now, she’ll probably look suspicious, even more than she might be looking already. joey feels her chest get tight as she checks for her own knife and drags her feet to follow down towards the village. she chews on the inside of her cheek, giving herself an intense pep talk. why is she struggling so hard to act like this is all fine? she doesn’t feel like her usual self, probably because she doesn’t feel too much at fault since she isn’t the one who pulled the trigger.
she finds herself in the group of people to have last seen where she had been, making her stomach flip. should she offer information? throw the group off the trail, acting as credible and helpful? or, she could put on some emotional outburst in hopes to appear incredibly bothered by the disappearance and get sent back up to the lodge? joey swallows hard, deciding a mix of the two, just enough out of character for her to possibly come off as being negatively affected by the loss. one of her arms cross over her body and the other elbows rests on her fist, a faint pout on her face, “ [color=#990000]we split up into smaller groups around here and she just.. “ joey looks up as she answers edmund, forcing tears to her eyes and acting like she’s trying to keep them in, “ [color=#990000]she just never came back, “ her hand covers her face as she sniffles, hoping to give off enough of a distressed vibe to be dismissed, as well as banking on ed’s fondness of her sister to guilt him into not causing joey any emotional trauma; especially while pregnant.

Whilst a couple of volunteers offered to take on smaller groups, Eddie stood back and watched others gather together in preparation for the trek. ❝ I’ll take three other people with me- ❞ Eddie shifted his gaze towards his cousin, watching as a couple of members began to huddle nearby. Whilst Ed’s trust for Fred was admittedly rocky at the best of times, he would begrudgingly point out as well that he knew he could rely on him to do a good job. When it came to hard work, Fred was one of the hardest working men that Eddie knew.
And then, he looked around to oversee the groups coming together, only for his gaze to land on Joey who looked moments away from a breakdown. Lips parted ever-so-slightly, listening to her attempt to carry a conversation until she cracked. ❝ She just never came back. ❞ Nostrils flared gently as he watched her world crumble around her, Joey crying gently with her hand covering her face. He had insisted that all able-bodied people ought to help in searching for Aiden but clearly Joey wasn’t in the right place emotionally to take part.
Whether it was because he cared a lot about the Van Doren family and that baby in her belly, or he still ensured to keep his promise to make sure they would remain safe, Eddie couldn’t put Joey through any more grief than she was already feeling. After all, she was likely one of the very last people to ever see Aiden before her disappearance; it must have been traumatizing. Eddie sighed before walking over towards her. ❝ But she will, a’right? We’re gonna find her. ❞ He assured her softly, turning so that he could stand beside her before resting a hand on her shoulder, looking out towards the others grouping together.
❝ I’d like for you all to meet back at the lodge before sunset, okay? Find me and let me know that you are back so I can make sure you have all returned safely. ❞ He pointed out before looking towards Joey, voice now somewhat more sympathetic. ❝ And lets get you back to the lodge now, a’ight? ❞
