“...and you ball it up like this. see?” his fingers were already freezing from the cold, melting snow clinging to his gloves as he worked on forming a perfect snowball. last time he had held a snowball fight, it definitely seemed more one sided - fred couldn’t be blamed for taking the game so seriously while others seemed to grow frustrated at being dragged into the game - but this time, it was different. this time he managed to recruit a team to help ambush with him. he looked over towards henry and ida as they worked to make snowballs from behind their snow-drift-turned-snow-fort. “those look… great.” he briefly wondered if he could have recruited a couple better volunteers.

he peeked his head out from above the snow pile, lowering his head to look towards the two. “alright. here somebody comes.” he looked back up, watching the person get closer and closer. then, after they got closer, he ordered, “go… now!” and with that, the two kids stepped out from the fort to throw their snowballs. fred launched a snowball at the person’s back.

“got ‘em!” he grinned as he looked at the person with a smirk, standing up from behind the fort to start to make another snowball. “pretty good shot, wasn’t it?” he asked absently - ever the attention-seeker - as hands shaped a snowball.

// just your average snowball fight yo

Oh, hell no. He hated the way goosebumps trembled across his skin with each and every shudder in the blustering breeze, or the way his extremities burned with chilblains every time he set foot through the door back into the warmth of his home. But, would that mean he’d turn down the chance to mess about if given the chance? No way in hell.

Walking back downhill from his time in the lodge, he knew that he didn’t have very much to do for the rest of the afternoon apart from lounge around at home with Harrison. Trudging through the snow, Colton rubbed gloved hands together to try to stay warm but, before he knew it, he was pelted by snowballs. With a flinch, Colton swiftly looked over towards the trio - two children and a man - who all seemed equally as pleased with their fantastic shots.

❝ Pretty good shot, wasn’t it? ❞ The man asked as he began to shape another snowball, Colton’s brows knitting together before he leaned down to cup up some snow of his own. ❝ Sure, but not as good as my throws. ❞ A hint of playful competitiveness - exactly the kind of thing Colton was into. To save pelting a snowball at either of the two children, Colton chose to swing his arm and release his snowball in the man’s direction before quickly leaning down to start scooping up some more snow. Well this was one way to make friends, huh?

freddie knew very little about the man he had just pelted with a snowball. the two barely crossed paths if really at all, save for when the man came and joined with ellie and harrison (and proceeded to continuously forget the poor guy’s name). whether it was a friend, stranger, or enemy, it seemed like freddie didn’t seem to care who got tangled up in this mess. colton surely handled it a lot better than others, he had to admit.

he watched the man lean down, cupping snow in his hands as he responded, ”sure, but not as good as my throws.” freddie raised a brow in pleasant surprise. oh, so this guy was a bit competitive, too? he grinned, holding his hands out at his sides confidently. “hit me with your best shot.” even with that remark, he still turned to the side to try and avoid most of the hit. to be fair, it was a pretty good shot. he huffed a breath of laughter, briefly shaking off the snow. “not bad,” he said, the closest to a compliment anyone could get.

he formed a snowball with the cup of snow in his hands. oh, it’s on, colton. “but mine’s still better.” he took the opportunity to launch a snowball back at the man as he said it- and, really, it was almost sad just how amused freddie was in that moment. guess it didn’t hurt to try and have some fun every once in a while, yeah? (he said, after never taking a moment seriously in his life).
