cookin' by the book // open - juliet s. - 02-28-2020 She was dressed like someone died, in all black from head to toe, but that's just her style. It was all she wore. She held a mug in her hands, black coffee within it. It wasn't the best but...it was as good as it was going to get. She walked over to the other person in the kitchen, the first person she had seen here that could maybe be close in age to her. Well, in comparison to the brothers at least. She kept her distance of course, but read whatever was written in front of him. Some sort of recipe. "That's too much if you add it in it'll taste like shit" She told him, drinking from her mug of coffee. Odessa looked back to the directions and frowned "Is it safe for me to guess that you don't like what any of those measurements are?" she questioned, raising an eyebrow "If you want help, I have nothing better to do." she offered, leaning against the countertop and once again drinking from her mug. Re: cookin' by the book // open - RORY T. - 02-28-2020 [align=center][div style="width: 500px; text-align: justify; line-height: 150%; color: #494949; font-family: karla; font-size: 8pt; letter-spacing: 0.2px; word-spacing: 1px; margin-top: 10px;"] rory didn't have much calming influence, if sleep didn't count. but his mother had. besides being a herbalist, she was a pretty spectacular cook. sometimes rory thought she was just about good at damn near everything. rory used to be able to help, and he enjoyed it to an extent, but anything he learned he didn't really absorb. " just a little bit of this spice, rory." "here's this butter , rory." and he'd listen , feeling accomplished. maybe he could be a cook someday , although the notion didn't last long. his mom belonged in the kitchen , his father lectured , but not him. fair enough. but with his dad gone , maybe he didn't have to fall victim to that toxic ideology; maybe he could use it to his advantage. the good-looking shit in the cookbook motivated him. so , he got to work. got the necessary ingredients to conduct some kind of chicken noodle soup with a twist. If they didn't have it? all well , it'll all turn out the same. he boiled a pot , gathered the ingredients into one and got to work, focused. that is , until someone interrupts him just as he was going to dump a shitload of salt into the pot as the cookbook said— and then he peered again— shit. so, he wasn't exactly good with numbers. got slightly confused when it came to fractions and shit but hey, he was going to try his luck and hope it turned out decent. he was enjoying himself. now he was slightly offended, moreso mortified. "I can manage." there had to be one of those measuring spoons somewhere; the kind his mom used. he surfed through kitchen drawers and cupboards. nothing. defeated , he looked at the girl, gestures for her to do her magic. "just don't ruin it," he adds. he doesn't want eddie to kill him for putting any of this shit to waste. now that he thinks about it, he doesn't think he seen her around before , but whatever. newcomers popped up from god-knows-where around here. it wasn't any of his business. "rory, by the way." might as well be polite. she was offering to help, much to his discretion. Re: cookin' by the book // open - juliet s. - 03-05-2020 She set down her cup of coffee and moved over to stand near the bowl and look over the recipe. She didn't know what, if anything, he had put in but she was just gonna wing it based on what she stopped him doing. "Want me to like...teach you the measurements and stuff?" she offered, glancing towards him as she picked up the salt. He didn't have any measurement things out, though it was possible that there wasn't any. She frowned, guess she'd have to figure out another way to him. Lucky enough though, she knew alternatives that her mother had taught her in case she ever ended up at a place that didn't have the right cooking supplies. His name was Rory. She supposed she should also be polite then "I'm Odessa," she told him, glancing to him again before looking back and after finding "Okay so like...if it says 'to taste' as it does here" she said pointing to the recipe where it said salt "You add until you like the taste, basically." She explained to him before setting the salt back down "So it's best to do that last so you're not just drinking hot water" she joked, looking from the directions and ingredients to what he had grabbed and then to Rory "Here, can you cut the vegetables? That I'm sure you know how to, right?" [b]"i mean , yeah." he speaks before he thinks; a quick act. and then , quickly. revise. [b]"how hard can it be?" could it be similar to slicing an asshole trying to mug you? because if so , this could be proven to be as easy as bie. he'd found a cutting board , out of many things. a carrot lays out before him , silently taunting him. he avoids glancing odessa's way as he steadies the carrot on the cutting board , beginning to slice it (rather unevenly) , but he's proud. |
