WALKING IN A WINTER WONDERLAND / private - dannychan - 09-25-2018

[member=503]legiana.[/member] so i know it’s almost halloween but uh,,,, christmas bc i had angst
gavin was normally alone on christmas. he didn’t have a lot of accepting family that’s want so see their relative- or the gay relative at least. sure, his mom was great but all of the joy of the holidays had been sucked away for him- and it was odd. he always acted nicer on the holidays. he always got his co-workers thoughtful gifts and sent them ‘merry christmas / happy hannuka!’ (depending on which they celebrated) messages on their social media’s. it was probably because he knew what it was like to feel alone on these holidays and he didn’t want anyone else to feel like he had.
but anyways, moving on from depression, there was a holiday party planned, with a secret santa type thing, and everyone had pulled from a hat. he had gotten hank that year, and had gotten him a very expensive bottle of whiskey because he was over heard him talking about it to connor, and had overheard he had wanted to try it. of course, he had gotten everyone else presents too- even connor and nines.. and sumo. he had gotten connor a really nice silky tie with a bunch of little cartoon sumos on it, on the back it said in silver, small print ‘custom made for connor anderson by: tie-co. he had gotten gotten stumped with nines present so.. he had gotten him.. a book. it was about a creature tying its hardest to fit in with the humans and to understand them, and finally making friends with a little misfit boy. he had just gotten a nice new squeaky toy for sumo and a new collar since he had noticed on the sumo instagram that his collar was beginning to fall apart somehow.
so, he was now sat at a table in the building that help the little christmas / hannuka party the dpd threw every year for the officers, wearing a nice button up and black dress pants with navy dress shoes. he was scrolling through twitter, buying his lip quietly.

It was Nines' first Christmas, and honestly he was sort of confused by all of the traditions and everything of both Christmas and Hanukkah. Hank and Connor had been trying their best to teach him, but he'd still been having some issues really grasping why these holidays were so huge and celebrated. Still, he had enjoyed the gifts that Connor and Hank had gotten him - Hank had gotten him a butterfly pocket knife to fiddle around with, in the same vein as Connor's coin, and Connor had gotten him some new casual clothing. Still, Nines had figured it would be sort of mean-spirited not to go to the party that the DPD threw, and Connor had said that he shouldn't wear his uniform to the party, since it was meant to be casual, but nice. So, Nines had decided to just take off his jacket and wear his usual black turtleneck and jeans. As Connor and Hank went off to talk to others, Nines immediately decided to head for where Gavin was, seeking the sense of familiarity that the other brought. Walking over to the table, Nines said softly as he looked Gavin over, "Oh, detective Reed. You look very nice."

gavin looked up when he saw the other and smiled weakly. “hey.†he said and blinked at the compliment. he knew the other had just taken off his jacket- it was pretty obvious. “thanks.. you just took off your jacket, didn’t you?†he asked.

Blushing a bit blue, Nines looked down as he nodded and said softly, "Ah- yes, I did. I'll admit I wasn't reality sure what would be appropriate to wear, so I thought just taking off my jacket would suffice.."

he chuckled softly and nodded. “i guess that’s ok. i normally just put on a suit minus the blazer because.. i bought a suit for tina’s wedding and need to use it a little to get my moneys worth.†he sighed.

Nines smiled a bit at the other's comment, but he couldn't help but notice that Gavin's stress level was higher than his normal baseline. Frowning a bit, the android tilted his head to one side and said softly, "Well, as I said, you look quite appealing... Are you feeling alright?"

Nines' eyebrows came together a bit in concern, but he tried not to seem too worried as he sat beside the other, "I must admit that I... Am struggling to adjust to the 'holiday season'. I don't think I've ever seen everyone at the DPD so... Casually happy."

Nines blinked and said, tilting his head to one side, "Not wanting to spend time with family...? Don't humans usually enjoy spending time with their families?"
