Cowardice: If he can't see a way to get the upper hand, Jonathan will likely flee a battle that doesn't work in his favor. In Detail: Jonathan is a master tactician and a genius in terms of intellect. He can outsmart most opponents and find mid-battle solutions in which to exploit an enemy's weaknesses mid battle. He will often taunt his opponents in an attempt to poke at their defenses, and is skilled enough with weaponry to make for a formidable opponent. However, his lack of combat training makes him average with hand to hand abilities, and his cowardice insures that he'll flee any battle not in his favor. Syringes are attatched to his right gauntlet and are used as a weapon. Appearance. Ghoulish and ghastly, the costume itself is a frightful thing. A torn mask reveals the chiseled jawline underneath, parts of a gas mask hanging from the maw. A hood covers the dark sight, old and tattered, dirtied with use and age. From armored gauntlets, syringes stretch like claws reaching away from flesh, dangerous weapons that glint in the light. A bullet proof vest hides beneath the leather of the chest piece, thick enough to stop any blade. a personality
Link to his Notebook. And Journal.General: Cold-hearted and cruel. Psychological: Absolutely obsessed with causing fear. Likes to put a 'The' at the front of his alias to appear less human to his victims. Alignment: Chaotic Evil Likes: cold air, spiders, insects, salty foods, the night Dislikes: sunlight, brightness, heat, disrespect Positive Traits: Highly intelligent and skilled in psychology. Negative Traits: Sadistic, obsessive, and incredibly cruel. Fears: Burning alive and bats. Jonathan is a cold-hearted killer, and one that enjoys human experimentation. He prides himself as a psychologist in a way, grasping an understanding of the mind that few possess. Highly intelligent, Jonathan spends most of his time studying fear and the effect it has on the mind. His overall goal is not just his pleasure, but a way to ultimately cope with his own terrors. By forcing fear onto others, he distracts himself from his own, such as bats, and fire. Around friends: Jonathan doesn't keep many friends, but when he does, they're generally safe from his experiments, should they avoid angering him. Jonathan will, in fact, invite them to see his work, if he feels they are trustworthy enough. Around enemies: Cruelty laces his mind when he faces his foes. His only intention is to force them to face their greatest fears, and he'll do whatever he can to bring it out of them. Around strangers: Neither friend nor foe, Jonathan sees them as potential prey. He may inquire as to what they fear, and even go so far as to stalk them until they are capable of fitting into another category. Around romantic partners or crushes: Jonathan will attempt to get them to understand him, to show them his life's work in the hopes of gaining their approval. Beware spurning the Scarecrow, he does not take kindly to it. a [b]history [tw for child abuse, alcohol abuse, torture, twisted Christianity] Fear. It's an emotion Jonathan knew well. He grew up with it, living on a wheat farm with his father, his mother, having died in childbirth, his grandmother a harsh christian of the worse sort. Jonathan's father was negligent and liked to pretend Jonathan never existed. On occasion, he hit Jonathan, with his fist, or with a belt, for no apparent reason asides from drunkenness, as if alcohol would suddenly remind him that his son existed. But most of the abuse came from his grandmother. She believed his mother's death was his fault, and that he was a devil's child. So she beat him. But she didn't just beat him. She tortured him. tormented him. Called him worthless, strung him up in the barn and beat him with a belt. The scars that lacerate his body are brutal and eternal. They'd only ever fade, but they would always exist. At some point, she forced him into a boiling water bath, as if to burn the devil out of him. She'd tell him he would burn for what he had done. She even tried to murder him once, she had tried to set him on fire, dousing him in gasoline, screaming that Satan would have him for what he had done. Of course, he had fled, though knowing his family, while abusive, was all he had, he soon returned. The other kids of the town, mostly in school, picked on him for his lanky appearance. They often compared him to a scarecrow, and enjoyed shoving him around, bullying him, stealing his things. One day, they strung him up in the field, tied his hands to a cross and covered him in straw, screaming that he was good for nothing, that he was worth more as a scarecrow than anything else. That didn't count the beatings. On occasion, Jonathan would try to stand up for himself, and he would always be severely punished for it. The teacher never did anything about the bullying, in fact, she encouraged it. It seemed as if the entire town hated him. It was, after all, a small village that still clung to a small pocket of power. It was likely because his grandmother often fabricated tales that Jonathan was evil, that he often attacked his grandmother and father, that he was a devil. And the town believed it. So he suffered. One Halloween, he managed to get away from the distress his family caused him. They never would have let him off the property without permission, in fact, during that particular time, he had been confined to his room. But he had snuck out, and what he saw that day changed everything. He had been prowling around the bushes in the dark of the cool night when he had seen it, a group of rowdy teenagers jumping out at strangers, harassing trick-or-treaters for their candy. At one point, an older man passed by, perhaps in his eighties, with greyed hair and half blind eyes. One would have expected the teenagers not to leap from their hiding spot in that moment, but they did. And the old man had a heart attack. A real one. That was the first time Jonathan had truly experienced the power of fear over others. Sure, he had felt it himself, but he had never been the cause of it. Something stirred inside of him that day. Then the power went out, and the town descended into darkness. Radiation killed the livestock, and the plants, and that was how he discovered it. Starvation was a powerful thing, and his grandmother often refused him food. So when a merchant arrived in town, Jonathan did the only thing reasonable. He snuck into the trader's wagon and stole from him. Most of what he stole was food, but then he saw the plant, white trumpet shaped flowers bright in the darkness. He had heard the trader talk about it. Apparently it was deadly poisonous. Jonathan had grown tired of the abuse, tired of the pain, the suffering, tired of seeing the wounds and scars that laced his small body. So, he stole the plant, and the next morning, when he was told to make his grandmother's daily tea, he poisoned it with the flower petals of the supposedly poisonous plant. On that day, the world changed. He watched as his grandmother began to hallucinate, how she began to call out, claw at herself as if she was on fire. The plant wasn't just deadly, it caused one to hallucinate their greatest fears! His mother survived despite the fact that he had used all the petals on the flower, and she made certain that he was punished for it. Despite having no proof, she, naturally, assumed that he had poisoned her. So, she strung him up by his feet in the barn and beat him with a cattle whip. But Jonathan had found an obsession with fear that week. After seeing the heart attack, after seeing his grandmother struggle. He knew that fear would change everything, that it would make him powerful. So he began to research. He had always been a reader, and he was highly intelligent, having paid great attention in class. Jonathan was best at chemistry, and he often stole psychology books from his father, who happened to work in the field. The books helped him understand fear all the better, and he learned about phobias and the twists of the mind. But as for chemistry, he learned about biochemicals, and, despite the fact that the plant had long since died, he still had the seeds. So he synthesized them into an injectible liquid, stealing needles from the local doctor. He always was a good thief. It was how he survived. Each day he was abused, beaten, treated like a demon, but during the night, he snuck out to his private little lab in a shed near the back of the farm, and began to research. But in order to find the perfect formula, he had to test it, and so he took one of the needles filled with what he called his fear toxin to class one day, and the first person who harassed him got it good. It happened in the middle of class. James had called him scarecrow again, but this time it didn't hurt like it used to. If they wanted a scarecrow, then they would have one. James's screams echoed throughout the school that day, and, feeling stronger than ever before, Jonathan fled back home before the police were summoned to the scene. He knew he didn't have time to wait and watch his grandmother suffer, as much as he wanted to. So he grabbed a scythe from the barn, and attacked. The old woman didn't stand a chance, though she tried to defend herself, he hacked her to death. And then, his father. Quickly gathering all of his supplies from the shed, Jonathan fled. He was young then, and he traveled for years by himself. One day, he found an old Scarecrow costume in a Halloween store, and, reminded of his childhood, he decided to keep it and take on the alias Scarecrow. After all, if the world wanted a scarecrow, then that was what they would get. Having remembered the trader's remarks on where the Scare Plant could be found, Jonathan traveled far, to an ancient jungle, to find what he needed. And once he had found enough of the radiated plant, he began to research once more. Hungry for power, and to study fear so that he might one day overcome it himself, along with the motive to make the world suffer for what it had done to him, he began kidnapping people from the villages he passed through, using them as experiments to further develop his toxin. Until one day, he found Cullen. Jonathan had never found love before, but something about the other man stirred something within him, and while their relationship never moved past friendship, it was clear that the two both felt something more for each other. But Cullen never saw The Scarecrow, not it's fullest extend. Jonathan was afraid that his alternate self would frighten Cullen off. But one day, that changed. Jonathan, desperate to prove that Cullen was truly his friend, that there would one day be more between them, showed Cullen his work, and instead of running away, Cullen had supported him. While the other man never helped with his kidnappings and experiments, choosing to stay a respectable distance from the crime, Cullen never once betrayed Jonathan's trust. One day, they traveled through the desert, Badlands territory, and were approached by three soldiers of the group who attacked on sight. They tortured and killed Cullen, and in a vengeful rage, Jonathan had slaughtered them before swearing revenge on the Badlands. But that was not all he swore. He swore he'd never love again. He felt abandoned and betrayed by the world, and he hated it. Jonathan eventually joined Flintlock Lodge, but didn't give up his studies. In fact, having a town full of people only encouraged him further. But he knew that as people started to disappear, people would grow more and more suspicious of someone in the group. Desiring to both target the group leader, Lupin, and hide his own involvement, Jonathan attacked Lupin as Scarecrow and locked him up in the town jail. After doing so, Jon took over Flintlock and promised to conduct an investigation into Lupin's disappearance. He, instead, used his opportunity to get out of town as an excuse to further his experiments, by seeking out more fear toxin from a rare plant in Northstar District, before moving on to threaten the members of the Badlands in an attempt to cause unrest between the two groups so that he could blame the disappearances on the Badlands, given that The Badlands had, at one point, murdered his closest friend. Jonathan was hell bent on revenge, and wished the group to suffer. Their leader Charlie in particular. Not long afterward, Jonathan traveled back to the Badlands as Scarecrow and attacked a man called Sheogorath, subjecting him to his worse fears. Afterward, Jonathan traveled to Camp Apocalypse in order to manipulate them in helping him raid the Badlands, but never received a proper response. On the way back from Camp Apocalypse, he came across a man on a farm, a killer, much like himself, named Edward. While Jonathan determined at first to kill the other man, he soon realized that there was something special about Edward, the fact that, despite their annoyances toward each other, they had both seen each other for what they both were, wolves. Something stirred with Scarecrow, though he never would have admitted it at the time. Edward eventually joined Flintlock Lodge, and his presence only caused The Scarecrow more confusion, who was determined not to be betrayed, who was determined never to have another friend lest he lose them. He had had a friend once in high school, and they had betrayed him, became apart of the group that had abused him. So Scarecrow was wary of getting closer to Edward. In fact, he often considered killing him. Until one day, Scarecrow allowed Edward to see one of his experiments, a test, anxious that the other man would see him for the truth of what he was, a real monster, a nightmare, and betray him like his friend in the past. Edward did not betray Jonathan. However, as time passed, Edward disappeared, and Jon left Flintlock behind, becoming a loner once more. He terrorized villages, until his yearning for a group environment became too much to bare any longer. Jonathan headed toward the Badlands, a place he once toyed with in an attempt to destroy, a place that still haunted his nightmares, his memories of Cullen. But it was under new management now, led by a person called Salem. Scarecrow couldn't help his curiosity, his desire to find out more. And so he set out. Had the Badlands changed? Were they still as ruthless as they had been under Charlie? Though Jonathan had once sworn never to stop until the Badlands was destroyed, he now felt a sickening kinship with them, with what they were, and what he had become. If the world wanted a monster so badly, why not allow evil to fester within an entire group of them? Ambition burned within Jonathan's mind, but when he was promoted to Officer, he couldn't help the distaste that filled his mouth, knowing he was to serve a group that had taken so much from him. For a week, Jonathan was silent, brooding on his promotion, until he decided that the Badlands simply wasn't the place for him. Though he thought he should feel some kin ship with the creatures of The Badlands, he couldn't help but hate them for their alignment alone. It was a feeling that Jonathan couldn't escape from, though he tried. Re: Jonathan Crow | Flintlock Lodge - Jonathan Crow - 07-13-2018 [align=center] [glow=grey,2,300]JONATHAN CROW -- TAGS[/glow]
