Tension. It had been a long climb, as a plateau was to a mountain peak, and it was still ongoing. More and more of the Badlanders had been disappearing out of thin air, and at this point, he had to assume the worst. All that had been left of Sheogorath was his blood, and all that had been left of Taboa was her gun, the barrel still warm to the touch. Something was happening around here, though Charlie could only send out so many patrols to keep the territory secure. Perhaps it was time to visit the other groups, to see if they had anything suspicious to report as well. Maybe he'd even find that it was them who had been nabbing his members. Charlie couldn't keep up with this, though. At this rate, his ranks would shrink, and they would weaken. He didn't come this far to fall apart.
The man was on a solo patrol at the moment; he had been doing these on a regular basis now. He wanted to make sure that nothing was happening on the outskirts of town, as he couldn't afford to lose anyone else to a kidnapping. He was risking his own safety, of course, but what was he going to do? Keep himself locked up inside his room all day?
Movement fell upon his ears. Jostling, rustling, a struggle. Charlie furrowed his bushy brows and crept through the trees until he found himself gazing upon a live kidnappng. One of his soldiers was being restrained by a rougish bandit, and the other was attempting to bound her wrists together with rope. "Sons of... bitches!" The young woman exclaimed, gritting her teeth as two beefy men overtook her no matter how hard she fought back. She strained with effort, but it was far too late. Charlie scowled at this sight and reached into the folds of his shirt, reaching for the blade that he was going to stab these fuckers with. As soon as the woman had caught a glimpse of him, though, she shouted, "Boss, get out of here! Go!" Because, if Charlie didn't leave now, then he'd get himself killed. Perhaps they'd even take him as well.
There was no way that Charlie was going to flee, though. These were the people that were kidnapping his soldiers, and he was going to wreak havoc. As the two men averted their alerted gazes to the now-exposed boss, Charlie huffed and wielded his knife in his tight grip. The stronger of the bandit duo continued to hold the NPC soldier back and quickly finish bounding her together. The other, a tad more bulkier than the boss himself, darted towards him and tackled him onto the floor. Charlie held his knife up towards the other's face, though the bandit's hand was clenching his wrist, forcing the knife in the opposite direction. They were tied in a battle of strengths, so Charlie only had one option: he send a swift kick to the other's crotch. The man yelped and collapsed onto his side, allowing for the boss to gain the upper hand and pin him down to the ground. He dealt a few swift punches to the guy's cheekbone before threateningly resting the tip of the knife to his throat. A few seconds had passed, and for some reason, the bandit had emitted a chuckle. "Your second-in-command.. and his little girlfriend  huh, you're lucky that they are still alive." He muttered, his chest heaving and grasping for air.
His... second-in-command? And his "girlfriend"? Charlie creased his brows in confusion, frustration piling within him at this statement. Then, it hit him: Sheo. Taboa. They were both alive, and these were the bastards who had taken them. He had practically growled, "Tell me where th' fuck they are, [abbr=bitch]stronzo.[/abbr] 'N maybe this'll be a lot quicker." They had been alive this whole time. They were alive and these two knew where they were. Charlie was going to get an answer one way or another. He stared intensely into the other man's eyes, his gaze burning into his. The blade gradually pressed deeper, drawing blood...
The collar of his shirt had been yanked back, nearly choking him. "Aghâ€â€!" Charlie, thrown off by this sudden movement, hadn't been prepared for the assault to rain down upon him like thundering hail. He had been roughly shoved onto the ground and whacked across the cheek multiple times. It was the other bandit, coming to the aid of his partner. Charlie gasped, barely even catching his breath before fist met mouth. Knuckles dug into his lip and his gums, causing them to swell and pulsate in immense pain. Charlie winced, screwing his eyes shut, and he was now far too distracted by his bruises to fight back. The man got to his feet quickly and told the other, "Hurry the hell up! They'll all come running at this rate." They would be outnumbered, and it would've been safe to head the hell out of there.
The bandit rushed over to climb onto his horse, who was still carrying the tied-up soldier. The other one huffed and got to his feet, managing a smug grin at the boss who was on the floor. "Hah! Tough luck, Lucky Luciano~" He taunted him before dealing him a kick to the ribs. Charlie wheezed, curling into a ball, and he rolled onto his side. Blood dripped from his mouth into the dirt as the bandits rode off with the NPC. He coughed up some more crimson, and he panted deeply as the sound of his heartbeat pounded into his ears. He gulped down a wad of metallic-tasting saliva, feeling nauseous and utterly defeated.
( yEAH uh basically charlie witnessed an NPC getting kidnapped by some captor peeps and he tried to fight the bandits but they overpowered him and Rekt him and now he's laying on the floor with a bruised/bloody lip )

However, pregnant or not, practicing or not, she was going to empty a quiver full of arrows into whatever had made that soldier yell that. While she had not proved so loyal to the group in the past, their kindness (and need to not feel shitty) for letting her stay after she washed up half dead, her stomach stabbed with a knife, and her baby's life in danger.
Grabbing the bunch of arrows which had been stuck in the ground to practice, she slipped them into her quiver, and started at a slow jog, more like an uncomfortably fast walk to where the sound had come from. Too late to see the people, she instead heard the sound of hoofbeats galloping away. Damnit, if she could have only gotten there more quickly. Her eyes fell to the figure of Charlie, bleeding lip, seeming to have been kicked in the stomach from his posture. Her face went white, Charlie was a good fighter, she'd seen him take down people, the fact that he had been injured was... not good.
Grey eyes focused on the man as she carefully knelt, her swollen belly in the way as she attempted gently shake the man's shoulder. "Charlie... are you-" No he was not okay dumb question to ask, "What happened?" Better question. There was no way she was going to run for help, she was about five months too along to do that, her belly very obviously pregnant. Hand moved to her canteen, and she offered it to Charlie, uncapping the water and pushing it towards him, "Drink some water, and I'll get you're face cleaned up boss." She had no desire to be mean, no reason to quip, she was just very worried for the man right now.

It’s confusing to explain in a sentence, so here’s a far more detailed explanation. Or at least, simplistic but easy for understanding. The prominent men in Ellie’s life thought they were invincible, Charlie included, but because they reigned in power, they reigned in glory, because there were people who kissed their feet and kissed their ass, told them otherwise of course they’d find that they’re anything more. Nobody wants to be just human not in a world like this. Maybe if she had the ability to super-remind them.... something that, “Wake up and smell the flowers you fuckin’ idiot. You can die any second†That they’d be more careful. Less... of an asshole? Less of something to prove, and more of someone who should’ve realized... they’ve already proven. God, she was describing she Charlie, wasn’t she?
Charlie had been a man. He’d proved none other than to be a man, raised from ashes and ruins, and looking for nothing other for a life where he reigned a life superemly and maybe, she understands. Even with her pent up anger towards him, Ellie’s fondness remains enough to where, she does want to kick his ass, but she doesn’t want to see his ass kicked but anyone else with solid intentions of killing him.. Enough to that, if he didn’t think he was, she at least had herself fooled that he was a man of few that was invincible. Had he been to find out, the last thing she wanted it to be was a teeth and claw and at the edge of nearly knocking at Heaven’s door.
She, too, heard the engagement but her first thought isn’t to help Charlie, but to go after the men long gone. It doesn’t take her long to realize that, but not before she realizes Charlie nor any of the soldiers are behind her. Maybe she understood because she, too, was looking for something to prove. She was more than capable of killing trespassers if given the opportunity. But there’s nobody to watch and as she heads back, she stumbles into a stomach-clenching scene. Cortuney kneels on the ground besides a beaten and bruised Charlie. The Charlie she’s never seen before as never being able to fall, fallen. Ellie is almost too quick to slide onto batter hands and knees. â€ÂWh-What happened?†she breathes, but the question isn’t direct towards Charlie, but Courtney. That’s when she notices for the first time that the other is... pregnant. It almost takes her from what is most important but she’s quick to delve back into Charlie, his injuries, but God it seems like he isn’t the only one in need of a doctor.
â€ÂShould I go get some help?†She doesn’t wait for an answer before already, she’s bringing herself to her knees and eventually, onto her feet.

whatever worry or concern courtney felt, it wasn't even a shadow of the fear the masked kit's face. eyes wide, once smiling lips now parted, she caught the scene of the boss coughing out blood and it was all she could do not to cry. she was fast, but she'd be stupid to think she could chase after those people on foot, she certainly wasn't that fast.
forcing back the swell of emotion, the impulse to do every thing she knew he'd probably be annoyed at, she dropped to her knees in front of him, beside courtney, and the fear, the confusion, the i-don't-know-what-to-do visible in her eyes that searched his features, flickering to his abdomen to gauge whether he'd just been hit, or perhaps stabbed or shot. "oh god," she'd say, because she didn't know anything else to say. her hands went to the buttons of the blouse she wore, undoing them within seconds and shrugging the shirt off, leaving her in just a tank top and offering it to courtney, who'd offered to "clean" him up. part of her wanted to, but all she could think was that it would probably hurt, to some degree, and the voice in the back of her head refused to cause him to wince.
"who the fuck did this, charlie?" she'd ask quietly, any drop of anger she felt masked by the concern she felt for her boss, hands wringing in front of her, antsy to help him in some way.

Oh good, someone had arrived just in time to see him cringing on the floor. He clenched at his sides, curling tighter into a ball as if he were entering a defensive maneuver. This time he wasn't defending himself against an assailant, but against the curious pairs of eyes that dared to feast their eyes upon his beaten form. He didn't want his subordinates to see him like this. To see him wounded and helpless and cowering on the ground. That wasn't Lucky Luciano. He had always stood his ground, always got back up after a fight. However, if he tried to stand up now, he probably would have dry-heaved and actually puked eventually. His stomach felt horrible, like his insides were being carved out. His stomach was still pulsing as he reeled after the kick to his ribs.
Courtney had come along, and in this moment, he couldn't exactly be picky about who came to his aid or not. At this point, he was glad that somebody had found him. Had he suffered a more serious wound, than he probably would've bled out on the spot. The woman was pregnant and still recovering from her own injuries, and yet she was still putting his health over hers. He didn't understand her logic, as he knew that they had never been on the best of terms (even if she had apologized). Could it be that she was just doing her job? Being loyal to him? Oh well, there was no time to ask questions. Charlie weakly took the canteen into his hand and poured some water into his mouth. It was quickly tainted scarlet with his warm, metallic-tasting blood and he spat it out onto the floor. It had helped clear the blood from his teeth... at least until they were stained again. His lip and front teeth were still pooling with crimson. "Got attacked... Got outnumbered." Outnumbered by one, sure, but they had both been physically stronger than him. It certainly hadn't been a fair fight.
Maybe this had been a wakeup call. Maybe this would knock some sense into Charlie's head (or at least rattle his pedestal). He wasn't invincible  no man was. Not even the tough-as-nails leader of the Badlands. He had been lucky that the thugs had been merciful. They could have easily slit his throat right then and there, but they had left him to suffer. They had also left him in the dark about the states of his underboss and one of his soldiers. He was curious as to where they had been held up all this time; now more than ever. That was why he couldn't give up now  he had to get up and figure out what to do next. So, when Ellie stumbled upon the scene, Charlie insisted, "Don't," The man pushed himself upright, pressing his fingers into his temple to massage it. His cheekbones still felt surreal, as if they were aching and throbbing like they had never been before. Hell, he nearly felt like collapsing, but he managed to keep himself sitting up. "I'm fine." He told Ellie with a short glance to her. The teenager had been a bit standoffish ever since she had returned to the Badlands, and this was probably the first interaction in which they were somewhat talking to each other.
Until she had dropped onto her knees beside Courtney, Charlie hadn't even noticed Kit. Her presence had alerted him, and he immediately averted her gaze. Great, just fucking great. Who was going to come next? Tatiana? Yeah, she would mock him for sure, just like she always had. And yet, Kit's sole presence was just mocking him. He didn't want her to see him like this. He didn't want her to fret over a stupid busted lip. The boss frowned and fully sat up, hunching forward for a moment as his face throbbed and ached dully. He caught a glimpse of the guard once again, and now she had begun to unbutton her blouse. Charlie quickly became confused at this, and he had nearly stiffened before he realized that she had a tank-top under it. "Bandits. They're behind the kidnappings." Charlie replied, shaking his head. "They just took one of ours." And he couldn't stop them. He couldn't even get any useful information out of them. He felt utterly defeated, as if he was stuck in square one.
