what he doesn't expect it for odessa to once again defend him from those who defended her. did he deserve it? absolutely not. and if he were in her shoes , he's pretty sure he himself would have kept quiet over holland's own defenses. but no , holland defended her and she demanded he'd apologize. if he wasn't pissed , he'd have felt smug about it. that's what holland deserved for assuming hero of every fucking story he was in.

freddie , on the other hand , attempts to assuage the crowd. rory , for the first time , felt vexed by the other's attempts at humoring— possibly himself rather than anything— but luckily not enough to cause a scene. shit already escalated enough, and no matter how obnoxious freddie could be , rory sometimes appreciated it. the last thing he needed was to be on the bad side of someone he sort-of-kind-of considered a friend.

boy wonder. he hates he answers the endearing nicknamed coined by odessa herself. he wasn't one for nicknames , especially given by those he barely knew , but absentmindedly , he found it beginning to stick. rory almost ignored her , but begrudgingly turned and walked back , hands stuffed in his pockets. as he reaches odessa , he extends a hand towards her. "sorry." he repeats , this time less asshole-y. it was the least she deserved for once again coming to his defense.

his eyes flicker towards freddie, he acknowledges him— silently thanks him— with a nod before helping odessa to her feet.
